Do you think age matters?

Do you think age matters in certain situations like dating and maturity? I’ve heard a lot of opinions on this so far and most have been, “age does matter even if you think you’re mature.” So what do you guys think, would it be wrong for someone to date somebody else because there’s a big age difference? And is it possible for a young teen to be as mature as a normal adult?

I don’t know if this has been done before, but I did a couple searches and nothing seemed to come up.

Well, I guess age doesn't technically matter, as in your age is the only factor in maturity, but I do think that in almost 100% of cases you only really mature with certain experiences. I'll admit it, looking back three years ago, I see many things that I have learned that have made me more mature. And I'm sure three years from now, I will look back on today and see the same thing. It is possible to have a teen who is more mature than most adults, but I don't think there are many. I mean, people who I've just met say that I'm mature, but I still think that with each new day something new happens that shapes who you are. And being that I haven't had as many days as adults have had, I've obviously got a lot of experiences to go.

So, in a word, yes a teen can be extremely mature, but it's a special case.

As for dating, that's a different matter. I think that if you truly love someone, age shouldn't be a factor. But alot of teens aren't mature enough(not pointing fingers, just saying) to really know what love is. They haven't had the experiences to know when someone is the one or not.

To sum it up, with different age dating, it's not your age that matters, but your maturity.

I dont think age is a huge deal, but in some cases it would seem creepy. All the guys i like tend to be older then me, so I would say it doesnt matter. As almost everyone has said, maturity has a lot to do with it.

I am 18 and my wife is 20. I have had no problems with anything that has become of our ages except some losers that are jealous of a relationship. and as for maturity, I am more mature until you put me in a boring situation, a graduation ceremony, she'll sit through ANYTHING. Me on the other hand got bored at my brother's so I didn't even bother with my own.

OK, I'm not gonna argue here but I'm just gonna say that the idea of kids being really mature is wishful thinking. I mean, lots of kids are mature for thier age, but saying that they have more experience than adults is often not true. I mean, certain things simply don't happen until a certain point. Also, some(not all) teens have problems with hormones.

Now when I say adult I use the term very conservitively. I'm talking about 25+, inteligent, compitent, compassionate people. The people who are over 25 but are biggoted or incompitent, for example, are not mature and are therefor still children.

I think it depends on situation. I mean, if there's a huge age difference, than it can be a bit odd, especailly if one party is quite young, say under twenty becasue they can easily be mislead.

But if it's love, then the only thing that really matters is your love for that person.

if there is love, then just work on the social views. that is if you care, but if it is love, you shouldn't

I think that age shouldn't matter in dating. As long as you love each other then that is all that should matter.

I think that it should matter, alot. I guess if your an adult it doesn't matter but if you're a teenager it should, law might get the other person in trouble, it all depends on how old they are and such, and you might really be upseting your family, I don't understand why most kids enjoy doing that... as my grandmother would say 'When you're young you don't know you're 'butt' (she doesn't REALLY say butt... ) from a hole in the ground'.

I don't think age matters at all. What does matter is your personality, state of mind, maturity level, ect. You can be young and have an understanding for alot of things. You can also be old and have absolutely no common sense. ;P

It depends on the person. How you grow up. Where you grow up.

And about the relationship thing. I don't think age matters there, either. I know alot of couples that have almost 6 year differences between them. I also know a few married couples that have almost an 11 year difference between them. It doesn't seem to bother them at all.

I wouldn't think it should matter. My parents had a MAJOR age difference, and I'm in love with someone who is 11 years younger than me, (I'm 30). As long as you care about eachother and enjoy things together it shouldn't matter. But I will admit there are times when it should.

I look at it like this. If someone is 18, they can date a 60 year odl man, and I wouldn't really care because odds are it won't concern me.
What I DO find wrong is when you have men between the ages of 20-25 dating 13 year old girls (and vise versa) We have laws for a reason people!

No, teens are to pety. Age makes all the differece in the world. Take dating for example, what do a 19 year old and a 40 year old have in common? Nothing.

I think thait matters alittle bit. As long as some under 13 isnt going out with someone over 18 then I am fine with it

Age does matter in a sense. The older you are, the more experiences you have had, and the more you have mature. I believe that most people (and I mean a very lage percentage) reach the level of maturity at which they can have a real and proper relationship around the ages 16-18. Again, This is most people, not all. A lot of younger teenagers like to say "Even though I am young, I still love [him/her], and I really mean it. I am mature enough to be in a relationship", "Or just because I am young, it does not mean I am not mature". That is not so much true, as it is a desire. As a younger teenager, people want to be mature and accepted as an adult, although their minds are just beginning, or are in the middle of becoming mature enough to make good decisions. They have yet to reach a true state of maturity. Around 16-18, when most teens will be mostly done with their mental development, they reach a decent level of maturity. Again, this does not mean they are mature. There are many outside factors that influence how mature a person is, such as friends, money, education, and so on. Younger teens will say thing like this, fully believing that they are mature, but they are less than or equal to half-way through their maturing process. Put simply, most younger teens are not mature enough yet to be in a real relationship.
Some people mature later than others, around ages 19-21. Again, this is mostly influence by their friends, family, money, jobs, hobbies, and education that have at that point in time, and in the past. It is around these ages when the are ready for a real and serious relationship.
I will say that some people do mature at a younger age, lets say 13-15. Keep in mind, this is a VERY small percentage. The reasons that they are able to mature enough to be in a relationship at an early age is generally due to having an abnormally high level of intellegence, or a tragedy which forces them to mature faster. I suppose I may fall into this catagory, having been forced to mature at an earlier age, for reasons that I shall not specify. People who mature at an earlier age will tend to stick with the notion of having one, very serious relationship, with a very special person, and they will have developed standards for themselves. They will have the patience to wait and look for the person they believe is the "one for them" to come along, rather than rush into a relationship with a friend or classmate, or someone of that sort.
A side not of what I said before, people maturing at an earlier age due to "a tragedy". People who mature at a normal rate or a slow rate tend to blow smaller problems, or problems which do not directly affect them, out of proportion, in order to seem slightly more mature. And, as said in the last paragraph, will end up trying to start a serious relationship with a person as fast as they can, or will end up moving from one relationship to another, which can sometimes cause depression.

if you really really love them, then I don't beleive age matters. My parents are 8 years apart and very happy together. They've been together 26 years.
