Your name means Goddess of the Moon...well maybe not ^^ So what does YOUR ACTUAL name mean? Have you ever wondered, or know if your parents chose your name based on what it means? If you know what your name means, please do tell. I love the meanings behind the names of others, and some are so interesting. If you do not know the meaning of your name, there are a lot of ways to find out, especailly with the interent at hand...or perhaps you have a baby book of names lying around somewhere. my real name means "Crowned One" ........ and my parents named me Stephen only becasue I turned out to be male ....... Make of that statement what you will, I aint gonna explain.

Anyway, I once again need to reply to my own thread. My name is Jessica and here are some meanings...

This name was first used in this form by Shakespeare in his play 'The Merchant of Venice', where it belongs to the daughter of Shylock. Shakespeare probably based it on the biblical name Iscah (belonging to a minor character in Genesis) meaning "YAHWEH, beholds" in Hebrew. Jessica is sometimes used as a feminine form of Jesse.

My name also means God's Grace, God Sees, and Rich ^^

well the only other info on my "Stephen" is that it was the name of the first Christian Martyr (guy died by stoning because he didnt stop preaching about God), and the name of a King of England (I just dont know what years). I learned of its meaning a long time ago and did some reasearch on it some time later (I dont feel like putting in the times).

Thanks^^ I have known the one about Shakespeare for a long time because I love Shakespeare and that is a very big point of interest for me^^

Also, my parents did not name me based on any of the meanings of my name...they just happened to like Jessica^_~

What my name means: My name is Earl, the same as the aristocratic title; it derives from the Old English eorl, which means "nobleman" or "warrior." So I'm a noble warrior, eh? Cool!

Why I got my name: My dad used to be a banjo player, and one of his favourite pluckers was a fella by the name of Earl Scruggs. So when my parents were looking for a unique name to give me, my dad suggested Earl, and my mom agreed it was a good name.

What people tend to distort my name into: Early, Earlzy, Earl Grey, Earl the Squirrel, etc.

My name is John, it means God is merciful , and I think there's some Gods gift or something involved. I'm supposed to be sweet, good, friendly and genourus. And I'm supposedly doing everything for mine. Which I always try to do ^^

It's both Hebrew and Norse, and it's been in use in Norway since the Vikings.
