If you try donating to yourself or anything like that, you will have 10 times the amount taken. So if you had 10 rupees in your account, and you tried to donate 10 to yourself, you'd find yourself with -90 rupees in the bank.
There's a possible reason.

it went down to -734.80 rupees. I know that exactly because I am counting down the money until I have 0 again.
This is one messed up system. Luckily I did get a nice guy/girl to donate to me. He/she gave somewhere around $300.

You have to realize that there is a delay between withdrawing and depositing rupees. You probably caught that glitch. It's just something we all sort of deal with o_O;

That happened to me!! Also negative amount of gil to my RPG T_T
But my friend donated some (thank you Felicci.91) and from now on, I have the money in the bank ^^;
Or otherwise, someone may steal it...I think that is why it was negative...
