Default Anime boom among the younger generation?

Okay, is it just me, or are there a whole lot of people on this site who are 16 and younger? What's up with that? I think the best explaination for this is because of Cartoon Network. Adult Swim wasn't around when I was that age, so there aren't a lot of people over 18 here. Adult Swim has some good anime, and it introduces the younger crowd to this fascinating world created in Japan. What do you guys think?

Tetsunosuke is under 16... I can tell... XD

Anyway, yeah I've seen a bunch of people here that are really young... o.O;; Guess this forum attracts them... Anyway...

I don't like Adult Swim myself... I've seen alot of anime before they got on TV... Full Metal Alchemist, Kenshin, DBGT, Champloo etc etc... And I have to say seeing them dubbed and stuff... It just does something to the anime..

I recommend watching a whole anime series you've never seen, Japanese with english subs... Then try watching it dubbed and you'll know how I feel..

Im 16 and I've noticed that too MistaCloud. I really don't like Adult Swim mainly because of that. So I go out and buy the DVDs and Cassettes. More of an Original feeling. And ive been watching anime since about '94.

As I recall, I was 15 when I first started really getting into Anime.. I was watching Rurouni Kenshin at the time.

Anyhow, it's true that Adult Swim does play a huge part in getting anime noticed more as a whole. And that they are on Cartoon Network will tend to get the attention of the younger crowd.

Also though.. While I don't care for most of the anime aired on Cartoon Network, I still enjoy watching Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo. Say what you will, the dub of Trigun was very well done. Samurai Champloo did lose a little with the dub as well, but it's still fun to watch, even after I had already seen the series.

Fair point everyone. I think that generally the subbed version is better. Like in Burst Angel, but it was still good in English. But don't you guys think some of the classics should be shown again? You know, to give tribute to anime that started a sensation. Sailor Moon, Speed Racer (yes it is an anime), Bubblegum Crisis, etc. And no, Pokemon doesn't count.

It's easier with the boom of anime in Canada and the States. Now I can be say to a normal person "It's anime" and I can actually see the lightbulb going *BING* on top of their head. Way back when it was like this HUGH secret (had to go to china town to get bootlegged sailormoon VHS tapes--yeah VHS remember those, kiddies!--for like 25 bucks for 4 eps. *smakes self* oh and the offical Neon Genesis tapes I got for 45 bucks each, dubbed *shudder*)

I find the boom has a lot to do with how much easier it is for the younger generation of anime fans to get anime. It's on TV, the can buy/rent the DVDs, or download the whole series with bit torrent.

Am I making any sense...I've jut come from a three day convention--CNanime--and lack of food and sleep and all that walking I'm sort of out of it.

Hmm...yes the younger generation is drawn to Adult Swim....i think it has something to do with their short attention spans and the fact that they say, "Do not watch this unless you are 14 and over"...little children don't listen to a word big people say until they figure out what they're trying to protect them from....and they still think its crap....so whatever...buy the original....and watch it....its the original that has captured our hearts and minds and other important stuff. lol

Anime is a lot more available now than it was before. It's all over the internet and there are a lot of people under 16 on the internet all the time. I remember I used toa have to wait for my cousin to come around with a DBZ movie every few weeks. Now I get a new Naruto, Bleach & Tsubasa Chronicle episode every thursday.
Cartoon Network has definitely had an effect in getting younger viewers. Especially when they realized that the anime's were quickly becoming their most popular shows.

Well, Toonami was the thing that introduced me to Anime when I was about 8. I watched Tenchi Muyo. XD .. and DBZ. Those shows .. I don't watch CN at all anymore, but if it weren't for those few shows they played on there, I would have no clue what Anime was.

    I'm 14. Guess that's pretty young, eh? .. I hope you don't think I'm a mindless little kid now. ;__;

    Wow, I didn't think you'd respond to that. ^^ .. heh, thanks.

The only problem I have with Toonami/Adult Swim/(insert CN show here) is that it might give too much exposure to shows.. like Inuyasha. X__x. Most people watching anime for the first time only watch Inuyasha. Then they think it's the best anime in the world.. when they've never seen any other types of anime before.. which is sort of annoying. ><

Oh yeah, and the old Gundam Wing. <3 Loved that show.

Whenever I was younger, it was shows such as Sailor Moon and Pokemon that was able to pull more kids into anime. Before that, I can't remember any show that were really for a younger audience. Toonami did help with DBZ and the such. CN does a pretty good job with the anime they show on their network (although, they could lay off the heavy editting). They have stuff for both young children and teens/adults.

Inuyasha is basically another DBZ, 'cept not as crappy and repetitive. I agree with Tsuna; there are too many anime fans who claim that InuYasha is the best anime show out there, even though they haven't taken the time to view other shows.

And I'm only 15 )but only for another 10 days ^^) I'm definately not a mindless little kid. Tsuna isn't either. She ish very smart and mature ^^

I know, I agree. I never said there was anything wrong with the younger generation. In fact, a girl my age (18) worships on the alter of Inuyasha. She thinks it's the best anime ever. She needs to get out there and watch some other shows.

    *joins in the frenzy...

hmmm... the age that I really got into anime was 17 and it was Samurai-X/Rurouni Kenshin. Here, all that's in animation are generic called "Cartoon" instead of different of Western animation and anime. And most of the anime that been shown here portrayed cuteness, young teenage romance, magical and the most loathed aspect of anime by me are merchandising and marketing. Most anime that they (national free TV that is) shown that are have kids-friendly qualities although recently they shown Gundam SEED and now Gundam Wing which has some morale and serious issues that mostly will be not understand and tend to be overlook by kids. Yeah, kids today more into anime which some are too medicore to me and some who agreed with my statement. That's my opinion and people should respect others opinion although it wouldn't be a favour to his/her views.

    'nough said...
