Invader zim?

Is Invader Zim an anime? I mean sheesh he is around here all over the place but I don't really consider it an anime as much as an american cartoon 0.0 but yea, can someone please clear this up for me cuz i am dying to know what it is really classified as, anime or cartoon. they may seem to be the same but anime in my opinion is japanese written, and as far as i know Invader Zim is pure american written and all. It would be great if it did turn out to be an anime because i'd love it that much more. but yeah clear it up for me and you will be mailed a cookie! ^_^... or not... you can just feel happy that you helped a guy out
