When I was 10 years old I decided I wanted to be an actress. Trained as much as I could and was in as many community theatre plays and such that I could be in. I even attended New York University majoring in drama for a short time.
I'm currently 21 years old, still taking acting classes, and have an agent for the state of GA (where I live now). I'm going to a convention/competition in a few weeks where I hope to find representation in other areas of the country.
So, to answer your question... Yes, I'm into theatre.
Speaking of Shakespeare... I helped teach a theatre day camp one summer that focused on Shakespeare. Assisted in the directing and coordinating of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, and The Tempest.

We just recently finished our presentation of The Tempest. It was great and it was so successful. We got a lot of support from the community. I adore theatre. It's my life.
I, too, plan on majoring in either drama or musical theatre, I haven't quite decided yet. But I have a feeling it's going to be musical theatre.

speaking of Macbeth, do you guys believe in the curse, i don't

The sword is a wepon for killing......The art of the sword.....Is the art of killing. No matter what fancy words...You say......Or what titles......You put to it......That is the only truth.
Good luck to you. I don't really suggest majoring in drama if you want to be an actress, though. I've heard a Broadway director say the same thing... It's better to get a broader education, than to focus only on drama. When I was a drama major, even the classes outside of the acting studio I was in (it goes like this: NYU>Tisch School of the Arts>chosen acting studio) were about drama. You get drama-ed out. That's one of the main reasons I switched to a foreign language major. This way I get a wider range of classes, learn more about the world around me, and I think it will better help me portray different roles than learning technique. Because, while acting technique IS important, there really is only so much you can be taught about how to act. What you really need to do is learn about the people you're portraying. One of my favorite classes is psychology, because it gives you insight on exactly what motivates people to act certain ways.
So, my suggestion: major in some form of social science, and take drama classes as electives. Also look into any classes offered in the area that aren't in the college. Like community theatres that offer classes, or if a professional studio offers them.
Do you ever plan to try for film/TV, or do you want to stay strictly with theatre? Because the two styles are totally different. It was very difficult for me to switch over from theatre to film style when I first started taking film classes. You know with theatre you have to over-act a bit so that everyone in the audience can see your emotions? Well, with film it's the total opposite. You have to be more subtle. Then again, it also depends on the tightness of the shot. If it's a close-up, you have to down-play it majorly. If it's a full body shot, you can do a little bit more. Lots of discipline. >_o
Edit: Dark evo chaos x, I've learned that one shouldn't scoff at theatre supersitions... Like the "good luck" being bad luck thing... Yeah.. That's true. I saw that in action. Scared me enough to never say "good luck" to anyone before a performance again. The girl was just fine, I say "good luck," she goes out to perform...and loses her voice. She was singing well during warm-up... And, like I said, fine up until I wished her "good luck"... Her voice was shot for the rest of the night. Poor girl was crying in the greenroom by the end of things.. She had a lead role and it was a musical.

Good for you! most people are entertained by other useless crap like video games or television....(like me for example....WHAT?..it's winter right now... ). I salute anybody who has a hobby, and it's a good one at that. I've been in ONE play my whole life, it was for Halloween...I was a skeleton...and we did a skeleton dance....aw god why'd you make me remember that night! ...btw: shakespeare is a good writer.Originally Posted by GoddessDiana

i haven't been in a play since i was a kid and i can't remember what it was. but i love going to see plays. the last one i went to was the phantom of the opera at the carosel dinner theatre. at least i think it was that play. i've been to too many to keep track.
I just finished up my Intro. to Theatre class. I had a very well known teacher within the city, but as much as she tried, the history is extremely boring. The process of theatre, i've learned, is far more difficult than I gave credit to, and the history of it has a lot to play in with the Renaissance and what not. Theatre over all, i've learned, is a precious commodity and something we'll always have to enjoy. Personally, I do love seeing plays and what not, but what I REALLY want to do is go see something on Broadway or Off-Broadway.
I've done school plays type thingys but i hate it all, i don't like to get up on stage and prance around yapping some crap that no one probally even cares about, plus i get stage fright so much doing those things which is the reason pretty much!
I've always loved being on stage. Spotlight makes me nervous right before for some reason, but during and in the end i'm absolutely loving the adrenaline rush. I'm glad the whole nervous, shaky feeling doesn't persuade me too much from doing a good job. I also don't mind doing some backstage, behind the scenes work, too. I guess I just like the whole process.
lol, i'm fine with softball.
I haven't really done any theatre work lately. =/ I guess i'm done with that for life. Seeing theatre is probably what i'll do from time to time, though.
Try four. =P
I hate stage fright your like, " I don't wanna go up there anymore. I...I...I*twitch* am afraid!!!!" happened at least 18 times before I got use to it...Stupid soap operas....

It's not all about the Renaissance... It goes back as far as ancient Greece. And, a lot of the stage mechanisms are actually from Japanese Bunraku (puppet) theatre. Anyway...I always found learning the history rather interesting. Even did my cultural presentation in Japanese class on the three traditional forms of Japanese theatre: Noh, Bunraku, and Kabuki. Those are each fascinating in their own ways. It's especially intriguing to know that how they perform those theatre styles now are exactly the same as they did hundreds of years ago. The training is strict, and the traditions are upheld throughout each generation. That's something you don't see in Western theatre. We can only speculate, going by writings and such to give us some idea how people did it way back in the day.
Mm..ok..I could rant happily about theatre styles all day, so I'll end there. Heh.

my first play was in first grade. snow white. i was a dwarf(the smallest one). its been 5 years and ive only been in three. i should really get back into it though. i absolutly love shakepeare.
Shakepeare rocks! PM me if you want to talk about classic literature.
Ahhh, theatre^^ If I had the means to go out and be an actress on broadway I would do so in a heartbeat...unfortunately I know too many people who are literally "starving artists". I love theatre though, especially broadway and Shakespeare. I was involved in theatre in high school and still do a few things regarding theatre here and there...I really do wish I was more involved in theatre, but that is not currently my path, maybe or hopefully it will be later ^_~
