I just saw the pilot episode of this new Disney XD show here on their official Youtube page.
When I started watching, I thought "hmm, this looks interesting", but then I started to notice some very interesting parallels with Evangelion. I'm pretty sure this is just Disney doing a live action ripoff of Evangelion, under a name other than Evangelion to avoid trademark violation. In both Evangelion and Mech X4, the main character is the only one who can pilot the mech, because of some ability they were born with. In both, they pilot it by synchronizing with their mech. In both, they can be injured (at least to the point of pain) by their mech taking a hit (and in the case of Mech X4, they can experience real physical injury as well, while in Evangelion it required a Lance of Longinous to do this). In both, when an enemy monster is defeated it dissolves into a large quantity of colored liquid (red in Evangelion, to resemble blood, and orange in Mech X4 to avoid showing blood in a show intended to be kid friendly). In both, in the first battle the main character gets his mech's arm broken (a very specific injury) by the enemy. In both, in the second battle it nearly costs the main character his friend's life so he has to fight to not only defeat the monster but also to keep the monster from hurting his friend (though in Mech X4 it appears that the friend is actually dead to start with, not just a close call).
A few differences you will notice in Mech X4. No plug suit is required to operate the mech. There's a team of 4 that is needed to operate all aspects of the mech (rather than multiple mechs, with one pilot each), with the pilot being just one of the positions that need to be filled. For some reason, there's not even a single female character who is among the 4 people needed to operate the mech (while in Evangelion 3 of the 4 pilots are female), which is odd when you consider that no show nowadays (except for Mech X4 apparently) has a cast where 100% of the main characters are male.
