help me to get the name of a anime please

When I was a kid I used to watch a anime movie but I cant remeber a lot about it I havent seen it for more then 10 years.
I think it had 2 parts but Im not sure, maybe it was just 1 really long or 3
I used to watch it on teli on PRO7 a german TV station. They used to put it on twice a year on Xmas and on Easter the same time as Princess Mononoke which came out in 1997.
And I know that it was about monkeys and I think they could fly but im not exactly sure. The monkeys were probably fighting some other monkeys or something else and maybe there was a huge monkey as well or two or they could turn huge
Im sorry I cant recall it I'm not even sure if all the stuff i wrote is correct or not but im sure it was about monkeys and I'm sure about the times it was streaming and the fact that i used to watch it and like it.
I really want to watch it again, but i cant figgure out the name.
Can anyone please help me wih the name? pretty please
