Another Shooting...

This time in Roseburg, Oregon (180 miles south of Portland) at Umpqua Community College, initial reports indicate 10 dead, 20 injured, and the shooter is in custody. Things are still being slowly released to the media, atm. But I can confirm that two of our own members (Tiv and Hershey) are okay and well.

As things unfold and more information is known I'm sure they'll be posted here.

Well depending on where you live, murder is a daily thing. =/ But these mass shootings have gotten out of hand.

I have to wonder at times (though I truly know better) if these things are put together, covertly, just so the government can call for tighter gun control.

And then there's the inevitable goof who doesn't understand that gun control isn't an all-or-nothing proposition, and the flame wars on various forums begin. Why people cannot grasp the concept that while we have the right to self-defense (limited chamber pistols, shotgun), we do not need mass-effect weapons (AK-47, UZI) to do so. And then, there's the people who just cannot fathom how waiting one a two more days, for a more complete background check is performed, will actually help.

I think I'll stay clear of this thread from this point out.

Having said that though, Def, have you heard anything back from tiv/hershey regarding what's happened? You've said they're okay but that's all I've heard of them.

Not since the day I checked in. They're long since graduated and were at their home a few miles south of Roseburg when the shooting took place. I figured I'd give them some time to learn what they can about who died from the school and give them room to grieve any losses of friends/professors. From how they responded initially, I believe I may have been one of the first persons to inform them of the shooting taking place.

This kind of thing is definitely out of hand though, I mean I just googled "California mass shooting" (since I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been one here for a while) and apparently a group of teens were arrested yesterday while they were plotting a mass murder at their own school in Tuolumne. What the frack people?
