Since they're coming out with a movie that everyone already hates, anyone remember the original TV series? Action, adventure, great 80's music, outfits that have clearly inspired modern singers like Gaga, Kesha, and Katy Perry, and lesbian undertones like you wouldn't believe.

It wasn't an anime. It was an 80's cartoon. That may have been made in japan.

It was made by Toei, the same company that made Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. The plot may have been written by westerners, but the actual animation was all created in Japan. And while the character design prototypes/storyboard images may have originated in the west, because of the Japanese animators who actually drew the animation cels, their own practice at drawing the anime style (being that they are from Japan where anime style is THE style for drawing animation), resulted in many characters (while looking overall like western cartoon characters) having in some of the scenes a subtle hint of anime style drawn into them.

As far as I'm concerned, drawn by Japanese (or other Asian) artists + the animation company itself is a Japanese (or other Asian) company + having at least some appearance of anime style being used to draw the characters = this show is an anime.

Anyway it was a good show. Seems like they're doing okay with the comic.. but from the look of things the movie is going to be a cross between the Josie and the Pussycats movies and Hannah Montana...

Actually in the series they often fought bad guys, stopped drug smugglers, kidnapped, etc.

You really should watch a few episodes.

So did the movie suck as much as we all feared? Despite them telling me at the theater that nobody had paid to see it, they wouldn't let me peek in to see the last 5 minutes even and I wasn't going to pay for it.
