Are Macs good for doing animation?

I'm getting a Mac and want to start learning how to do animation digitally, starting off with Flash and SFM. Everyone says that PC is best for gaming and that Macs are for workplace and media use, so naturally I would assume that Macs are superior for all software apart from gaming.

Am I correct?

My friend uses an iMac for his creative stuff such as photoshop and final cut pro. I strongly recommend it.

No, not really. These days, the only difference between a Mac and a PC is the OS and craftsmanship. You can get a Mac, install Windows on it and you'd have no performance difference between your Mac and a normal mid-to-high range PC. The only difference is possibly the screen quality, but you can get a good screen for a cheaper price on a PC as well.

Macs used to be for graphics design, because they came with hardware that was designed to provide higher performance for calculations often needed in these environments. Apple ditched that hardware for the classic Intel hardware and transformed Macs into overpriced PCs, really. So today, the only real difference is the OS and the craftsmanship.

I truly believe so... My macbook pro is a beast.

I use both a gaming PC and a Mac, I honestly get more enjoyment out of my Mac.
