Microsoft is following Firefox's example and is beginning to block outdated ActiveX controls. The very first control that is going to be blocked, is the Java Virtual Machine in the effort to reduce Java enabled websites to take advantage of the many security holes Java VM has.
This patch was added yesterday to all Internet Explorer versions starting from version 8 (it can be installed via Windows Update), but will start blocking only on September 9th, to give time to people with critical Java-based applications to upgrade their Java VM.
Hopefully, we will see the list expanded soon with outdated Flash and Silverlight controls and more.
