Hey there everyone!
Well, for the past few months my partner and I have been working hard on putting together a feature length documentary on the world of Japanophilia. It’s going to follow the story of several individuals who pursue their own interests, and documents their lives and struggles within the world of Japanophilia (or “Otaku” culture, as it has become to be known). The film will focus heavily on the different subcultures within Japanophilia, such as anime fandom, cosplay, and more!
The documentary aims to take a broad and objective look at what has become quite a phenomenon in recent years; it will cover the origin and beginnings of modern Japanophilia in America, and how it became such a popular and diverse subculture that remains largely unknown, and misunderstood to this day. We hope to tell the personal, individual stories of several devoted enthusiasts within the subculture, and through their own unique perspective tell an expansive story that covers just about every facet of this lifestyle.
With that said, we would really love some feedback from the very community we are learning about. We know what areas and topics we would like to research and cover, but also really want opinions from you; we want to know what the community would like people to know more about, and to achieve a better understanding of overall. All thoughts/ideas/opinions are appreciated and encouraged. We've been gathering as much input and opinions from all over as possible and it's been very beneficial through our planning process in the pre-productions stages.
We’ll be popping in the thread very frequently and at every opportunity, so we’ll do our best to answer any questions you guys may have, but for more direct questions about the film itself, you may also leave a comment on our Kickstarter and we will be able to answer it more quickly
Oh and if you would like to know more about the project, or would like to offer your support, please check out our Kickstarter, and like us on Facebook!
With your support, we believe this film can be exactly what it should be; informative and entertaining, and we are dedicated to hearing from and responding to the communities input!
