Because if they knew that P = NP and were holding out just to listen in on some "terrorist" that would be a hilarious organization of priorities.

So for the most part, encryption is still safe. The only thing that makes data unsafe if the fact that the NSA is bullying companies to give up all their data about their customers.

Or bullying companies to put backdoors in their cryptosystems...

So they haven't really broken properly implemented cryptosystems. They just made everyone else implement broken cryptosystems.
