Miley is trying way too hard to break off her Disney image.
Damn, Miley really looks like she got possessed by a demon.
I don't know about you guys but I thought it was a spectacular performance. Everything from her avant-garde attire to her erotic yet hypnotic dancing had everyone in the stands enthralled by her performance. I give her performance a 10/10. Billy Ray Cyrus's achy breaky heart was mended with his overflowing proud heart by that stupendous performance. I say we are blessed as a generation to have such a courageous artist trek boldly into a new art form and I am looking foreword to seeing more of her metamorphosis into a true hollywood gem and international star!
She wanted attention. She wanted everyone to talk about her. I think things went exactly as planned.
Anime is a lot like sex. Done right it's a beautiful act of creation that brings a little more light into the world. If it's sick and wrong... it's even better.

It's not too late for her to change for the good...
The problem is she isn't sexy and tried to do a very sexual dance.
Well, the entire MTV Video Music Awards is a joke anyway. Hell, MTV in general is a big damn joke. I know a lot of people complain that they don't air music anymore, but the whole show reminds me why I am glad they don't. How the hell does One Direction beat Daft Punk?
Let's say theoretically, MTV did play music again, they would play that crappy music along with Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj (a wannabe Ru Paul), Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, and One Direction and Cyrus (Gozer the Gozerian) as opposed to Kurtis Blow, Nirvana, Heavy D, The Doors, The Who and other great artists. Today, music has become more about style over substance and image over content of music. And it's frickin awful!!! At one point, Shaq used to be the lowest of what music could be outside of country music. Now the musicians of today make Shaq's music look like Beethoven!!!
That's why I was disgusted by it. It's okay to be sexy, as long as she knows how to be sexy. The word "sexy", in my OWN definition, does not refer to wearing as less as you can and swinging the hips, but it is sexually ATTRACTIVE to others. It is obvious that most of us aren't attracted by her so-called "sexiness". Rather, most of us are disgusted. The problem is she isn't sexy and tried to do a very sexual dance.
But still, I respect other people who have different definitions of "sexy". XD That was just mine.
I guess people do have different opinions in music. I would prefer Celine Dion's music over those you listed in your post, and possibly Backstreet Boys over One Direction--maybe because I'm so old now (different genderation makes a difference). However, my sister who considers herself as a musician would prefer Nicki Minaj over Beyonce.Let's say theoretically, MTV did play music again, they would play that crappy music along with Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj (a wannabe Ru Paul), Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, and One Direction and Cyrus (Gozer the Gozerian) as opposed to Kurtis Blow, Nirvana, Heavy D, The Doors, The Who and other great artists. Today, music has become more about style over substance and image over content of music. And it's frickin awful!!! At one point, Shaq used to be the lowest of what music could be outside of country music. Now the musicians of today make Shaq's music look like Beethoven!!!
Alright I'm getting off the topic now. =X
Who are you to fix the career choice of a celebrity's life? No-one would give 2 hoots if an ordinary person changed their career several times; but the moment a celebrity decides to exercise that exact same human right, some section of society (which would include you) turns on them. It's as if the moment a celebrity becomes famous they automatically sign an invisible contract that binds them to serve the interests of a certain demographic for the rest of their natural life.
You say "kid-friendly performances", and I can only guess that you're referring to her character counterpart, Hannah Montana. Well here's the thing: Hannah Montana is a character, an ideal; Miley Cyrus is person, a tangible being, and like any real person she's every bit as legally entitled to sexually flaunt her assets as everyone else. I'm not saying that sort of thing is appropriate for kids; hell, I'm an adult and images like that just make me go eww... but unless MC actively put up a video on the Hanna Montana website and broke the rules of her contract with Disney, it's not her problem. If kids are finding such videos through YouTube and what not, again, not her problem. I have a nephew and niece who are 3 and 6 respectively and if they use the Internet in my house, I will supervise them at all times. Sites such as YouTube are locked through parental controls (they do actually work if you learn to use them properly...). In fact, if I left them to use my computer through the accounts I created for each of them, they would be restricted to a very narrow selection of sites only appropriate for their age group. But, if you choose to project your own personal perception of HM onto MC, then get upset because MC does some sexual performance that psychologically challenges your ideals as to what a sweet innocent girl should be (which is creepy in itself...), then yet again, that's really your problem, not hers.
I'm not a fan of MC or any of the characters she played, but I don't recall MC ever saying that she would devote her entire life to being a role model for children. And that's what really annoys me: when people try to fix some celebrity's profession because of their personal attachment to the character they played--which comes back to my original point: objectification.
Now, I can't necessarily say that I like all the bands you mentioned (I do like Nirvana though) but what you said makes its point. God, you can tell our ages can't we? Even the bad and overrated bands of the '90's are better than what's around today. Okay, so there's a few diamonds in the rough, but the quality of everything else just makes the radio not worth listening to for that one three-minute song in the day that's actually good..
: The Game. You just lost it. :
Quote Of The Moment:
This was a young girl whom many believed was capable of single-handedly making a positive impact on the moral issues that are associated with the entertainment industry.
However, as beautiful as it sounds, I personally believe that something like that would have never actually happen. She is in an industry that is forever changing and if she was going to make it, she has to evolve and change with it in order to be successful.
I do not support her new image but it was inevitable that she was going to grow up. this is just the way she chose to show the world that she is now her own brand and not the brand of Disney anymore.
It is, at the end of the day, entertainment and should be just entertainment and nothing more. Entertainers should not be a bar by which you model your values because they change with the industry. It is what puts food on the table at the end of the month for them so they will do whatever it takes to be seen and for their work to sell.
Therefore, she isn't going to be boycotted. You see, she is just going to make even more money and gain even more fans because she is now the 'good-girl-gone-bad.' That is supposed to be cool and edgy and many people believe so and out of curiosity will seek her music out and decide whether they love it or hate it.
So, Mtv is playing what is considered music by today's standards because they are going to limit thier audience if they would play what you have called "good" music. It is not about talent it is about money and which cute face will have the teenage girls screaming for more, as this is a huge market as well.
idk, i find the turkey booty attractive *throws up in mouth a little*
Kaleohano derailing threads everywhere he go
Well, she was a child star, but she had a father who is famous for making one of the most awful songs ever made, or at least one of the most awful songs ever made until the 2010s. At least lack of talent doesn't skip a generation.
MTV Award shows beyond just one idiotic performance are more than enough proof that MTV is not an authority of what is quality music. Even their non-music shows back in the day like Beavis and Butt-Head would play music videos and they would make fun of them. I have not seen the new Beavis and Butt-Head but according to my friends, they tell me they don't play the music videos like they used to. They show clips from Jersey Shore or their reality shows instead. I'd like to see them rip the awful crappy music of today.
Still, I don't get why One Direction getting an award over Daft Punk isn't as big a controversy?
I just hope to God that the Grammy's don't stoop to this level.
Once again, I will state that I hope MTV goes the direction of G4, that it just ceases to exist altogether because it is no longer functioning on what it is supposed to do.
I like reading this thread, Funny.

And you say she might get a new audience, people who think that dance is "cool". But at BEST that will just be replacing her old audience (who will dump her over this) with a new audience (who will like her because of this). And at WORST, that new audience will be SMALLER than her old audience, meaning lower profits for her, possibly so much lower that it will push her out of the entertainment industry, and force her into a different career (maybe as a stripper in an "adult entertainment" establishment, where people pay to see everything she did in that dance, AND THEN SOME).

There's a thing called the vocal minority. People who don't care or aren't bothered aren't going to comment on it. Don't go around thinking that because there's a vocal group it makes them the majority.
