Starting in August, the United Kingdom will begin blocking online porn, both in private homes and in public places, Prime Minister David Cameron said in a speech Monday.

A number of major providers that deliver Internet service to nearly 90 percent of U.K. homes have agreed to put in place "family-friendly filters" that will block porn sites by default.



"This is, quite simply, about how we protect children and their innocence," Cameron said, according to a transcript of the speech.



The good news for porn fans is that the filters are optional. Still, if users don't actively refuse them, they will automatically take effect.

The fact that there are so many people watching porn is just another reason the filter should not be turned on by default.

The status quo of porn policy is very simple: don't ask, don't tell. There is nothing wrong with this policy, and there already exists ways for people to filter their internet.
