Worst type of anime fan?

In your opinion, what is the worst or most annoying type of anime fan out there? Fans of moe? People who feel nothing is wrong about an anime they love and will diss you for not liking it? Etc. My opinion? The newer fans who cannot respect or at least say the classics animes are just as good as newer ones. You? Random smilie in title not intentional. Rofl.

I get really annoyed by fans who hate on mainstream anime but have never even seen them. It annoys me when they start saying how crap it is without even giving them a try.

I dont like fans who boil anime down to art style and neglect other elements of the series/movie/whatever. For instance I had a really lengthy discussion with a friend who thought Ping Pong was bad because it was "ugly". Set aside the fact that the series was really interestingly stylised and looked a lot more interesting than anything else that season, the anime had a really touching story and amazing character development and the fact that my friend had ignored all of that just because it wasn't some clean cut A-1 pictures rip off style really bothered me.

I made that post in 2013. I think people are more accepting of JoJo compared to around the time when Phantom Blood/Battle Tendency (anime season 1) released. We still have some leftover ignorant people of course. Giorno is best JoJo for me.

You do realize by the list you've given, One Piece is a classic? It was out as a manga in 97, then got an anime in 98. One of the "Classics" you've listed Cowboy Bebop, that came out in 1998, so yeah, if we're considering things made in the late 90's as classics, then One Piece is also a classic. Not sure about that. Can an anime be considered a classic even if it is still ongoing? Is it too soon? I think it may be a classic once One Piece finally ends. Cowboy Bebop is over, but One Piece is not.

Beyond that maybe a dozen that are good, but probably wouldnt watch em again or buy memorabilia, and maybe another dozen I just didnt care for. But I dont go around bragging to be a huge fan, but I freely admit to being a huge fan of a couple. I know my tastes are different, but I'd never diss an anime or anyone that likes one that I didnt, I am sure they are all great animes for someone. Part of my problem is time and availability. I watch maybe an episode every couple weeks. I also dont have cable or know great websites for anime, I mainly use netflix which is rather limited. But again I dont brag about being a huge fan or diss other shows, and always look forward to atleast trying new anime when I can.

Why are people saying they are targets due to opinions in this thread? People may disagree with certain anime fans, but in no way are they a target! Watch what you want and if someone bullies you for having a different opinion then defend yourself lol. No need to defend yourself before that.

Well yes of course you are right. Perhaps its like a guilty conscious? I know I'm not the typical anime fan. And I fit some of the description here partly, but I guess the big difference is I don't claim to be a huge fan or brag about it, or dis any animes I don't like. I do tend to answer all the "what's your favorite ____" type threads with stuff from one or two series though. But point taken.

What Rainbow is trying to say is that someone can watch 4 episodes of Naruto and call themselves an Otaku. Sure Anime is Anime, but just watching 4 eps of a mainstream Anime doesn't actually prove you're an Anime Fan.

If they we're to complete at least 5 non-mainstream anime, then that's different, 'cuz they're looking deeper into anime than the mainstream ones.

It is annoying when you talk to someone and they talk about how big of an anime fan they are and they try to speak broken Japanese "omg so sugoi-kawaii-desu!" and when you ask them what they watch the answer is just one simple show. I still think if that's the case you're less of a fan of anime/manga and more of a fan of a particular series so you should really say "I don't watch anime but I'm a big fan of ___ series!" But honestly... if you liked that one series and like the Japanese culture, chances are there are other shows you'd like just as much.

Shonen/Mainstream hating elitists - I get really tired of their snobby and unfounded attitude. They instantaneously label all of the mainstream Shonen titles as "trash", thus acting as if they are some sort of authority over the series, when it's funny, as you'll quickly realize they have no idea what they're talking about when you talk to them. You don't have to watch a series or group of titles you aren't interested in. If that's the case, leave it there. Don't go on spouting out ignorance and putting down people who have different tastes than you.

Japan-obsessed people and those who say anime is the only good type of animation - These two groups of people can easily be lumped together, I believe. They are delusional. Having watched only anime, they have an inaccurate image of Japan. As if Japan is this Land of Gold. Once they got to Japan they'd realize it's not so much, being overpopulated and then being outcasted for being obsessed with anime, since I believe the stigma of adults enjoying anime is even worse there than the stigma of adults enjoying cartoons is in the US. The second part is self-explanatory. It's just closed-mindedness, which I have a short temper for, I suppose... But I suppose I should let closed-minded people be closed-minded.

The unsatisfiable 'pirates' - Over the last several years, anime and manga companies have been trying really hard to meet the demands of the anime/manga fandom. Although when I say this I'm mostly speaking of the US, so if you don't live there, I understand it's a completely different situation. At first it's "Well, we pirate because you take years to get out the episodes". So anime companies start simulcasting series, like One Piece. But quite quickly the pirates add more specifications to avoid the legal releases (even though the One Piece simulcast is FREE and comes out far sooner than any fansubs ever could). "Oh, why is there a small logo on the bottom corner of the screen?" "Why are there ads?" "This quality is crappy!", and the worst "How dare you translate 'nakama', it's a super special One Piece word."

So what it really comes down to with this group is they want things handed to them on a silver platter in a way that just isn't feasible legally, because the companies are companies, they can't give you everything, that would be dumb. Even when they put together a great service like the One Piece simulcast, it will never be enough, because these 'pirates' want it as a free HD download with words left untranslated for no reason.

False entitlement. That's a term that applies to this fandom more than any other. They got so used to their illegal means, that they are too far gone.

So, yeah, pretty much I almost hate the entire anime/manga fandom because a lot of them fit into at least one of these categories, if not all three. =P
