What's the problem with threads having a lot of posts? I see mods locking threads for "excessive length". Does it slow down the forum or something? Thanks.

1) I don't think that's the case because usually only 20-30 posts load in the thread and not 500. The other 480-470 posts are irrelevent when loading.
2) Depends on what is being discussed. Anime/Manga discussions and VG Discussions don't suffer from that, generally speaking.
Every time you post in a thread, the thread creator gets a bit of gil. It's not very much, but if you manage to start like 3-4 threads that go on for a really long time, you can make quite a lot of internet points. The closing for length policy is mostly to even the odds a bit.
It's also a bit hard to moderate 50 page threads.
Speed wouldn't begin to factor into it, I think. At least not with threads that are under a couple of million posts.
Hey look, Japan made a movie about me!
@Eris ....It depends on how long it takes a thread to reach 50 pages though.
Nah, you get the same amount of points no matter how fast it takes to get 50 pages.
