Good day to you all. My name is Dorado. I come here from the realm of gaming to try and converse with new people and perhaps meet a few new friends.
I won't bore you with my personal story just yet so I'll cut right to the chase. Anime Forum is well...an anime forum so let's just jump right into the discussion, shall we?
I've been a fan of anime since I started watching Toonami back on Cartoon Network. This would of course imply that I am a fan of DBZ (as well as Dragon Ball and GT) and that implication would be completely and utterly correct. It was my first anime and while (in some places at least) opinions of it seem to be mixed, I love it all the same; from the beginning of Dragon Ball to the end of GT.
Of course, Saiyans couldn't be the only reasons why I call myself an anime fan so my viewing horizons expanded throughout Toonami and beyond. I don't remember much about the other Toonami animes but I recall watching Zoids for a time as well as a few others.
Adult Swim is when it REALLY started getting good though. Big O, Case Closed, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and probably a few more that I don't remember at the moment. If I forgot something, it'll come back to me. I watched the aforementioned animes whenever I could back in those days. Unfortunately, due to my awful habit of falling asleep before they came on I haven't seen all of the episodes of the ones mentioned above.
Except Trigun, Netflix fixed that. Which brings us to the next (and current) chapter in the story of my anime fandom. I've managed to expand the list of animes that I've watched by quite a bit thanks to the Netflix App on my Xbox 360 which allows me to watch a lot of things whenever I want. This includes anime. It never had a MASSIVE collection but for the most part, it's been enough. The first anime that I remember watching on there was either Gurren Lagann or Afro Samurai (both the series and the movie) and both (in my opinion) were AWESOME. Next came Sgt Frog which seemed more like a cartoon than anything but when it came down to it, I liked it. I ended up watching every episode of it that Netflix had back when it had like 72-ish episodes. I loved most of it. I also watched Soul Eater which allowed me to experience the glory that is Death The Kid.
This year, I've watched 3 new animes. Rosario + Vampire, Squid Girl and Angel Beats as one might guess from the avatar I'm using at the time that I post this. Rosario + Vampire was...all in all not really that great but I had a few laughs and one of the characters (Mizore Shirayuki) really got on my good side. Awful lot of panty-shots and unnecessary bouncing though... (Also nudity, so be warned if you want to check out the show and you're not cool with that sort of thing) It's funny really, I made fun of it more than anything when I first started watching but towards the end of the first season it started to grow on me. Mostly thanks to Mizore though. I like her.
Squid Girl, like Sgt Frog, seemed more like a cartoon to me but that's okay, after I was done vomiting from the EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PUNS I realized how fun the show was. There were characters I found slightly annoying but the charm of the titular main character more than made up for it. I've only seen the first half of it though since season 2 isn't on Netflix.
And finally, Angel Beats. After reading a few of the episode descriptions, I initially thought "War against God? Hacker named Christ? This has to be stupid..." AND BOY WAS I WRONG. I liked the story, the setting, the music, the characters. Everything about this show just seemed good. I ended up starting off by trying episode 1 before going to bed one night and then I watched the rest of the series in one sitting. I have no regrets. Though, the reason that I keep recommending this show to my friends isn't any of what I mentioned before (though they ARE all valid reasons to watch the show). I recommend it for episode 3 and pretty much the final 4 episodes. I wont risk spoilers but people who have watched would know what I'm talking about. When recommending it to people I usually tell people to try out the first 3 episodes and see what they think.
Boy I've been typing for a while...sorry about the wall of text but I figured sharing most (I forgot a few shows) of my journey through the world of anime with you guys would be an adequate way to introduce myself to the site. I was also unsure of how to condense it into a "TL;DR". Anyway, I hope to meet at least a few people on this site & hopefully make a friend or two while I'm here.
See you in the forums~
Oh. Yeah. Something occurred to me while typing this. Is "animes" the appropriate plural form to the word "anime"? Whenever I put in the former spell check doesn't seem to like it.
