Default Do you think you'll ever get 'too old' for anime?

I personally believe I'll never get out of anime. I love it too much, and I don't think it's something you can 'outgrow'.

First of all, most anime is based on more mature themes. Even shows that are targeted more toward younger audiences are still made in such a way that they can still be enjoyed by older audiences. Not always, but there's always exceptions.

Then you have genres such as seinen and josei that are specifically targeted toward older, more mature audiences. So, anime isn't like cartoons in the sense that they're designed for kids. There's something for everybody in anime. So that's why it surprises me a bit that anime isn't as popular as you think it would be.

I agree with you, but still, not everyone does. People criticize anime because they haven't seen the other parts of it.

Will I ever get 'too old' for anime? No, not likely. Is it possible I will lose all interest in anime over time? Quite possibly.

I agree with you. Quite a few people ignorantly write off anime as 'weird cartoons' or whatever based on tiny glimpses they may have caught of more mainstream shows such as Naruto without even thinking that there might be more to anime then meets the eye.

I don't think i'll ever get too old or stop watching. Like it was said there are a lot of anime that I've seen that I would never let a younger kid watch due to the type of material that is in the show.

This pretty much sums up my opinion of the matter in entirety. I haven't grown too old for anime. I just simply lost interest in watching it in general. I spend more time playing Xbox, yelling at friends or watching Youtube Let's Plays and just don't ever feel like watching anime any more. =/

You never too old for anime but you might outgrown your taste.
You'll began to choose what type of anime you want to watch and building your own set of preferences. You'll re-evaluate things you did enjoy in the past and discard them when you find you're too old with that genre/you find the anime is just a re-badge of an old anime but with new and flashy animation for the newcomers. You'll began to seek new and fresh anime to suite your preference. With that, you'll start to loose interest if the current market doesn't fulfill your needs as you cling to your preference. These personal preference vary from person to person so you might find 40-year old man still enjoy shounen and dislike the deep stuff or 20-year old dislike the action adventure genre and enjoys romance etc.

I thought I was for a bit. It's not that I rejected anime, I just wasn't motivated to watch anything new.

Then I started watching Sword Art Online and I'm like, "Anime is cool."

Default Re: Do you think you'll ever get 'too old' for anime?

It's not really possible to "outgrow" it as most before me have already stated. That said I don't think I will ever tire of it as a whole either. For most of my anime life I've been watching a big mix of everything from all sorts of genres. I've seen the best of most worlds (I just watched Evangelion 2.0 yesterday for the first time and had to re-evaluate what I thought was a masterpiece actually...) because of this I can say without a doubt, as long as they keep making new shows and evolving the art style I will stay interested.

Many people have been complaining that in recent years there has been nothing but moeblob shows (Features cute girls doing cute things, K-ON, Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, Paniponi Dash, Etc.) and while I agree with this I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing either. I tend to like these shows regardless, and that is mostly personal opinion, but that doesn't mean I'm oblivious to the fact most of these shows are not on par with the better stuff out there. When we have these influx of "crappy" (or simple as I like to call them) when something truly great comes along we can appreciate the mastery of the form even more than we normally would.

Some of you might have guessed where this was leading by now :P I'd like to bring to light a certain show that has garnered massive response on some of the more popular sites that I thought was going to be just hype. Insert Shingeki no Kyojin, if you haven't seen it yet stop reading this and go watch the episodes currently available. This series in two episodes alone has managed to reveal exactly what I mean by my previous paragraph. Everything about it seeps with amazingness, you feel the characters right off the bat, there is no dull moment or conversation, theres an original story, amazing art that is just stupendous to look at, and a great score on top of it all. I found my self feeling for the main character in a way I never had before, I was actually crying (Well not really just tears) several times throughout the first episode.

It's easy to see when an anime like this comes out that everything before it just doesn't compare. It's got better and more fluid animation/attention to detail than any animated movie I've seen to date. This proved to me yesterday that I will never get tired of anime. As long as there is a little glimmer of hope in my heart to find something that will blow me away I will keep chasing that feeling like a heroin addict chases their high. This has only happened to me three times, twice was in one day which was yesterday. After watching Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0 along with Shingeki no Kyojin I feel I might seriously have to re-evaluate all the ratings I've given to the things I've seen before them.

After I finish Shingeki no Kyojin I will do a complete re-hash of my lists ratings. I feel I finally understand the differences between something sub-par or even good, and something that should be seen by everyone regardless of their origin because of how masterfully crafted it was.

Unfortunately many will fail to see these series and continue to look at anime from their pre-notioned misconceptions that every anime is for kids, and everything that is aimed at anyone over the age of 14 is ecchi or hentai. It truly saddens me to know that so many will miss out on something that can literally give you a life changing and memorable experience.

Over the years my tastes have changed a bit. I won't ever be too old for anime but I do find it difficult to finish a lot of series now. Unless it has a darker plot/story my interest in it fades quickly. I will definitely never be too old for gore/violence.

I don't think I will outgrow anime, I view it like many other forms of media and entertainment. If it entertains me, I'll love it until it ceases to do so. At the same time, I'm still able to go back to the old classics and watch/re-watch them and still be entertained. I do find the quality of anime decreasing storyline and plot wise though, as the quality of the drawing and animation gets better. Much like the JRPG's have over the years.

    I don't understand the question

Anime is a lot like sex. Done right it's a beautiful act of creation that brings a little more light into the world. If it's sick and wrong... it's even better.

My grandpa watches one piece so I doubt you can ever get to old. He's 76 and enjoys it. My grandma on the other hand watches bull riding xDD

NEVER! I will never consider myself too old for anime! You are only as old as you feel or your age contains 3 digits! Considering I am refusing to be an "adult" I will always be into anime!

No. Look at some of the guys that make anime. They are well in their 40's or 50's and I know they are obviously fans.

I'm not afraid of growing out of anime or anime related hobbies at all. It's the lack of free time as I get older that's a bit of a downer.

They don't pay attention to good ones that teach us lessons, like Clannad. If we were to have a debate with people who criticize anime, we can easily win by showing other shows that affect us positively.

Right, in fact, our arguement would be so effective, they'd become addicted to anime as well. :P

    ^ That.

You are never too old for something, Unless ofcourse that has to do with physical requirements.... but as a hobby, u cant be too old for anything. I agree, you can just grow bored of something or replace one interest with something else instead. But age has nothing to do with watching anime or with any other hobby like that.

Will I, personally grow out of anime?
Not exactly. Josei and seinen were concieved to fill the needs of the grown-ups who'd been raised on kodomo, shojo and shonen manga/anime.
There's something for everyone, your age will never be too old.
But in ten, twenty years, will I feel the need or want to watch anime and read manga?
I don't know. I'll be a different person, I'll look back at this time in my life critically, and that which I love now I might not love later.
Probably, I won't even have the time to watch anime.
So I'm guessing no. People change. This period is fun, but embarking on a new path in life is fun as well!
