Simple enough question~
For me-it was actually a couple friends of mine. I was a huge pokemon fan-and they showed me Tenchi Muyo! and then Gundam Wing when I visited them...and Bam-I was hooked, line and sinker.

...Clear...
In 1998 I watched Dragon Ball Z and knew this was going to be my passion. Fifteen years later I wonder, what if I never watched DBZ that day?
Nonon Jakuzure - Best Kill la Kill baePretty damn great! #spoke2soonOta "The Cutest Otaku" 2016 - Lol, how's your account doing lately? Oh wait.
Sailor Moon back in the 90's. It made me interested in that type of animation. Then pokemon hit the tv stations. That turned me into a fan for life.
I was never really big into anime because the only few I knew were Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon until my cousin got me into it when he introduced me to other anime like Mobile Suit Gundam and Full Metal Alchemist. From there on, I tried watching different anime and began to love so many of them.
Back in August a friend got me to watch Angel Beats and completely loved it. Since then I've watch over a month worth of anime.
For me, a mate leant me his Akira video in 1993. It had a very psychedelic effect on my young impressionable mind, and i quickly devoured as much anime as i could.
When I was a kid in the 80s, I did watch Voltron (Go-Lion), Super Book, Flying House, and Robotech, but had no idea they were anime. Then during a family winter vacation to the Philippines in late 1994/early 1995, DBZ was THE RAGE and my cousins were talking about it and wearing the t-shirts. It was on TV and I saw the episode where Android 18 man-handeles Vegeta and couldn't believe what I was watching.

Video games got me into anime, believe it or not.
....
Prepare for some cheesy shizz, because that what I have...
I was a quiet kid who no one talked to for most of my school life, up until 7th grade. In middle school, I thought I would always be that way. But, there was this girl who I always thought was interesting, and she was always nice to me. She always talked about countries like they were people, so one day I plucked up the courage to talk to her. I asked why she talked about countries like they were human. Her almost exact words were:
"It's from this awesome anime, called Hetalia. You should check it out!"
...And I did. I fell in love. I watched all of that, then branched out. I first watched Kaichou ha Maid-Sama on Youtube, then Clannad on Netflix. After Clannad, I was hooked on anime.
I had casually watched Pokémon, Naruto, and Inuyasha before that, but it wasn't until Hetalia that I was really "into" anime. I wont be going back anytime soon. From anime, I gained confidence, friends, wonderful time wasters, and great forums like these.

I wen poof for awhile, huh? Sorry, I guess I just kinda...dropped off. School started.
When now I'm back, have more anime under my belt, and am ready to join you all again.
My first Anime was Digimon Adventure. It was aired on my local TV on the year 1999 or 2000 I can't remember. Back then I only like cartoons and still don't know the difference between Japanese animation and Western, I thought they are all the same since they were all dubbed in the same language. But then as I grew older I noticed the difference. The style of drawing in which anime is more realistic, the depth of the story, the seriousness. And then came Animax....and here I am now.
Strangely enough my father got me into anime when I was about 6-7 years old he showed me some episodes and I was hooked from that day.
i think it was the first time i watched hamtaro i loved the way their characters looked and everything especially Laura always thought she was drawn cute.
As a little kid I would religiously watch Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh and I was always a big fan of the series but, I didn't know that they were really anime. Not in till about 6th grade when my friend told me to watch Death Note I became obsessed with anime. After Death Note I couldn't get anime out of my mind and continued to watch series from Hetalia to Blue Exorcist to Fairy Tail ectectect. and to this day I love it all so very much and has changed me as a person and in fact has made me some new friends! :3
My friend was reading a manga (Naruto). When he showed me Naruto i started to look on the internet for the anime.
A few months later, another friend of mine told me about Angel Beats. I have been a fan ever since.
There are people in this world that enjoy being alone, but there isn't a single person who can bare solitude.
The first anime I ever watched was Pokemon back as a child. At first, I wasn't much into it but it grew on me over time. That and Sailormoon was all I had ever watched until years later when I met my boyfriend of 2 years. He showed me Trouble Chocolate and Galaxy Angel and now I"m a huge fan of anime!
It all started with Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Project A-ko and Little Nemo. I just got hooked and have been watching it since I was about 6

What got me into anime were some friends I made on another forum. They always talked about anime and roleplayed anime characters and all that. I decided to see what anime was like, and I really liked it.
For me, a friend had recommended to me Rosario + Vampire and fell in love. Then after that I started checking out other animes. Now, I'm addicted.
Well I'd been pretty bored with regular tv to the point where I really didn't watch it anymore. I was too busy anyhow. Got netflix, mainly for my son, and would occasionally watch a movie now and then. I used to be on rotating shift, and a couple times a month I would have to switch no nightsifts. The day or two before my first nightshift I'd stay up late to acclimate myself. It was those couple night a month was pretty much the only time I watched tv or movies. But with the limited selection on netflix I ran out of stuff to watch. I had roomates in college that were big into anime, though I never really got into it, I decided to give it a try. I really didnt know there was anime that wasnt just for kids, and though the majority is for kids, I did find many that I enjoyed watching.

dragon ball z, ghost fighter, bt'x, zenki, hunter x hunter, etc.
It was more a combination of who and what, honestly. I used to watch Sailor Moon all the time as a child, so I guess that's what initially peaked my interest. When Princess Mononoke came out in the US, my mom bought it for us and I watched that once a week (at least) over the course of 2 years.
But my brother's were also a huge part of it because I would watch Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Tenchi Muyo with them during the day. Eventually, I found myself trying to sneak out of my room past bed time to watch the anime shown on Adult Swim with them.
I first watched Yu-GiOh! back when it was on, but didn't think much of anime until my cousin got me to watch Angel Beats. It all went spiralling out of control from there
In a movie store once, I saw a VHS copy of "Yotoden: Wrath of the Ninja Movie". I watched it. I was hooked.
Then I find out years later that it was just an absolutely BUTCHERED version of "Sengoku Kidan Yotoden", and got all depressed.
My two best friends in high school got me watching FMA and Inuyasha to start off with, then they got me into Gundam, Ghost In The Shell and Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex; I carried on from there by myself

I had watched anime as a kid (not knowing that it was anime, or that they were originally in another language). I didn't actually become interested in anime until after I graduated high school. I became interested in learning Asian languages, and focused in on Japanese. I noticed that anime culture was booming where I lived, so I joined in. I study the language in-depth (not because of anime, but because of my interest in the language itself), and I watch anime whenever I can. It's been awhile since then, and I regret nothing.
