Is there any meaning behind the laughing sun and bleeding moon?

The moon sometimes doesn't have blood coming out of its mouth, other times it has relatively little, and yet other times it has relatively a lot. Any meaning to that?

Surely there is some sort of pattern? Other than that, I like the sun and moon in Soul Eater. Certainly an interesting series with interesting characters!

Surely there is some sort of pattern? Other than that, I like the sun and moon in Soul Eater. Certainly an interesting series with interesting characters!

The manga gives more information about this, although the anime follows the same pattern. The sun and the moon don't really carry any real, inherent meaning, although they do have certain "personality" traits that are used to represent certain things.

The Sun is usually seen laughing (or shouting in the manga) because it has a boisterous and loud personality (also revealed in the manga). Its dialogue in the manga is lively and energetic. Because of its fiery personality, it is often used in scenes when the characters are passionate about something, fighting in a battle (particularly when they are winning), or about to embark on a mission.

The Moon is the polar opposite of the Sun. Its dialogue in the manga is quite sarcastic, often dark. The Moon is often seen snickering for some unknown reason. Because of this, it is often used in scenes when villains are sneaking around and doing other bad things. Blood comes out of it mouth when there is bloodshed going on. The Moon is also present during some scenes of madness, since some people believed that the moon caused people to go crazy (hence the term "lunatic").
