Why are "genies" associated with bringing wishes?

From my understanding, genies originated in the religion of Islam, in which they are supposed to be demons (fallen angels / evil spirits). So why would something so evil be something that was associated with something nice like granting you a wish?

This is a guy who's been banned for this behavior before across multiple accounts. Don't go talking to me about stupid till you're actually been apart of this forum for a decent amount of time.

It may not be the best said question or the most articulate, being that he considered them to be only evil in the beginning, but it's a fair question nonetheless. As for the Lazy Town thread, don't know and not even gonna try to touch that with a ten one hundred and ten foot pole. But this one isn't so bad, maybe someone with a larger understanding of the genies or jinn and Islamic culture can send more light on the subject. Or we can continue to be off-topic like a bunch of ninnies.
