For Gryffindor, yeah, I can see that. Ravenclaws are very studious people [people who like to study, aim for top grades, etc. Hermione was almost put into Ravenclaw]. Slytherin are very arrogant, many are "pure bloods" because of this. Gryffindor are really just brave and courageous, another fairly vague trait.

Nerdy people will be Ravenclaw, snobby people tend to be Slytherin, and then theres a 50/50 chance of being in Hufflepuff or Grynffindor if youre neither of those.

But thats just *my* breakdown of the houses.

Normally I'm not one to argue, but stereotypes always leave a bad taste in my mouth, and as a Hufflepuff, I can't see the reasoning in your perception. I'm pretty sure anyone from any house is capable of doing anything they want. For example, a person from Hufflepuff could be just as willing to save someone's life, as anyone else, just as any one person from Gryffindor may choose not to save someone's life.
In the end, the house does not define the wizard. The wizard defines the house.

I would always get Slytherin or Ravenclaw in random tests but then Pottermore decided once and for all that I am a Slytherin.

I see it as Gryffindors being brave, maybe brash, headstrong. More of the act first, think later types. Ravenclaws would be the opposite of that. More studious and tactful people. Perhaps the kind to approach problems in a not-so-orthodox manner. Slytherins are resourceful, tactful and ambitious (maybe prepared to take advantage of anything to fulfill ends. Perhaps a more analytic perspective in which they are less likely to allow personal feelings to influence things~) and Hufflepuff is difficult to define because we don't get many of them written about. Loyalty is probably quite general but I figure they're more selfless and laid back?

Nothing wrong with that. Its a matter of personal interpretation. And lets be real, some little test someone made isnt a good judge of what house we really would be in. You might have gotten Hufflepuff from the test, but you couldve been housed in Gryffindor if it was up to the sorting hat.

Ahh you mean Hermione got placed in Gryffindor because she chose to? If so, that is a little strange why would she do that. I now read up a little on wikia and it seems they imply that even back then Hermione saw greater challenge in her to become "bold and corageous" and that she valued these traits. Since she was already smart and studious to begin with, I guess that does sort of make sense.

Although the Sorting Hat apparently favors putting Harry in Slytherin House, he is, of course, equally well suited to Gryffindor, which is noted for nobility and bravery, and, in many ways, seemingly opposite to Slytherin. Also, Harry's parents were both Gryffindors. Harry has certainly shown he is noble, and has already demonstrated much courage in his young life, first by standing up to the Dursleys, then by entering a strange, unknown world, and now, as he challenges the Sorting Hat. Rather than passively waiting for it to make its selection, he specifically requests not to be sorted into Slytherin.
