There will be sexist, racist, and discrimination everywhere you go, trust me, it's not just the furry fandom, and usually there's only a little amount of those people anyway. There are some VOCALOID "fans" that don't like transgender people or gay people which is sad considering a lot of the "real" fans are in the LGBT community.

I'm not a furry, but I've got a lot of furry friends. The first person I ever dated was a furry, actually. It was fun helping her with the costuming and all, and I liked her artwork...but I never really understood it, like how I don't really understand people who are sports fans. And I'm sure, it's just like how some people don't understand my love of anime.

It's something you get or you don't, I think. Everybody likes something different.

And as to people trolling you...so what? So long as you don't feed them, I'm sure you can meet enough like-minded people.
