    Default Question about Japanese language...

What would be the difference between "arigatou gozaimasu" and "arigatou gozaimashita"- examples would be helpful, as well! ^^

They say the same thing but in different tenses. Arigatou gozaimasu is in the present tense while arigatou gozaimashita is in the past tense. It will probably be a good thing for you to learn/look up a conjugation chart such as this one click here

    For example: Going

Watashi wa ikimasu = I am going
Watashi wa ikimashita = I went

Think of it as "Thank you" for what you're about to have done for you (Arigatou gozaimasu), versus "Thank you" for what you've had done for you (Arigatou gozaimashita).

Also keep in mind that "gozaimasu/gozaimashita" is a little more formal, and can be subtly translated to "Thank you very much".

    My 2 yen,

    Akiosama
