Default A perfect crime. Is such a thing possible?

After watching plenty of eps of Law And Order: SVU and various other crime dramas and also researching forensics on the internet, I have gleaned the tactics that police will use to solve a wide variety of crimes. And in every case solved in these crime dramas, the perpetrator forgot to cover their tracks in one way or another. While highly unlikely, it would in theory at least be possible for a person to commit a "perfect crime", which is to say a crime that can not be solved with modern forensic techniques.
Below is a list of tactics that police will use to find criminals, and how to beat them.

    Tactic: Fingerprint ID
How to beat: Wear latex gloves.

    Tactic: DNA ID
How to beat: Wear latex gloves, and use a vacuum cleaner to suck up any hairs you may have left behind.

    Tactic: Photo ID
How to beat: If there is a place that is likely to have CCTV security cameras, case the place prior to commission of the crime, so you know where the cameras are. When committing the crime do one or more of the following for disguise: wear dark sunglasses, a hoodie, a wig, cut your hair, dye your hair, keep your face downward (most security cams are ceiling mounted).

    Tactic: Witness ID
How to beat: Use one or more of the disguise techniques listed above if you will commit a crime where others may see it.

Tactic: Gun shot residue detection on suspect.
How to beat: After firing a gun, leave the area as soon as possible to avoid being coated with a microscopically thin layer of gun smoke. Also since your hands are closest to the smoke when the gun is fired, after firing a gun, wash your hands VERY THOROUGHLY with soap and water, as soon as possible.

Tactic: ID from scrape marks on lead slugs
How to beat: Never use the same gun for more than one crime. Throw it away after firing it in the commission of a crime.

Tactic: ID from serial number on gun
How to beat: File off, or acid erode off, or acetylene melt off, the serial number on the gun that you plan to use in a crime.

Tactic: ID from shell casing due to firing pin impact shape (and some other things too I think)
How to beat: Never use the same gun for more than one crime, or make sure EVERY shot fired from the gun has its shell casing accounted for and disposed of.

    Tactic: IP address
How to beat: If the internet will be used for or for the furtherance of commission of a crime, make sure to send your communications through as many proxies as possible, preferably all located in foreign countries, preferably each in a different country, and preferably in countries that don't have "extradition treaties" with the US (so that they can't be legally forced to give up info on their users). Using VPN also helps as it means your computer isn't directly in the line of communications but rather is controlling a remote computer to access the desired website(s), and sending you the results of this browsing (text, images, even whole web pages) using a different protocol than the standard HTTP protocol. The remote computer in a VPN is (like with proxies) most effective when it is located in a foreign country, that preferably does not have an extradition treaty with the US.

Tactic: ID based on a collection of "little things here and there"
How to beat: Shoe prints, clothing fibers, etc can all lead to an ID, so before you go to the place you wish to commit a crime, change your shoes and other clothing to something you don't need to keep (vacuuming the floor if there is a vacuum cleaner nearby is also a good idea). After committing the crime, keep the old clothes until night, then BURN the clothes preferably in a dumpster in a dark alley so people won't see you going and burning the clothes, and while the fire department and possibly police arson units will arrive on the scene, you will be long gone before then. Make sure this dumpster is at least several city blocks away from the place where you live.

    Tactic: Rape Kit
How to beat: Should you decide to commit this type of crime (and I pray you never will), it will be best to thoroughly scrub the victim clean (both inside and out) in his/her bathtub to get rid of all the DNA evidence (a suspect in one episode of L&O:SVU actually did this, but later got caught from other investigative tactics).

    Tactic: Response to 911 call
How to beat: Make sure nobody sees you, and if you are directly attacking someone (such as for a kidnapping), do it stealthy (Navy Seal style) by sneaking up BEHIND your victim. First move when you get within striking distance should be to VERY QUICKLY reach over their head from behind and ductape their mouth (should already have a piece of ductape in hand when approaching) or put a rag soaked with chloriform (knockout gas) over their mouth and nose (This is a quick KO in about 2 to 5 seconds, at least in the movies and crime dramas). This will meant the victim can't scream to alert other nearby cops, or civilians who could call 911, nor can they call 911 themselves.

Note that it is VERY hard to pull off a true "perfect crime". So far, there is only one person who has done so, and that person still hasn't been caught, nor is their name even known. This is the person who raped and killed Jean Benet Ramsey. 2nd place for this goes to the Green River Killer, who for DECADES evaded law enforcement, but finally was identified as Gary Ridgeway, and arrested (and I believe executed, but I'm not sure if he's been executed or just serving life-in-prison).

Disclaimer: This post in no way means that I think committing crime is good. It is NOT good. I do NOT condone crime. I myself have NEVER committed a crime (other than downloading ROMs, warez, and pirated anime). This post is NOT intended to instigate any crime. It is designed ONLY as an educational post, to provide information (particularly to those who are fans of crime dramas or fascinated by the field of "forensics") about forensics currently used and the defects in those tactics that could potentially be exploited by criminals. If someone reading this post does follow through and commit a crime using these tactics, even in the event it was reading this post that caused them to firmly set their mind to committing the crime, I am not to be held legally responsible (in either civil or criminal court) for the actions that they commit, because of the fact that I am not writing this with the intent to induce any person to commit any crime. Also, since it is purely intended to convey information, the nature of the post falls under the legal classification as "educational", and therefore is protected as free speech under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

    Nice pasta, bro!

Anyway, the perfect crime has no introduction. Which means, nobody ever learns it was committed. Every secret agent knows that!

First off the perfect crime is best setup by not talking about it online since it can be recorded and used against you.
(Your IP address can be recorded)

Also if you check out various law books from a library your books and whatever else you check out are also recorded, most libraries do that these days.

Always pay in cash and not w/ credit cards, and as for ur cell phone never keep it on you since it has a GPS chip embedded (you could remove the battery though)..(buy prepaid disposable cell phone w/ a time card for a one time use)

Cars these days have GPS trackers, even in rented cars so don't forget that....

Tips when a cop pulls you over:

    - If a cop asks you for permission to check your car or house (because of probably cause) You have the right to refuse to consent to a search of yourself, your car or your home.
    - You can refuse a search, but I cop will still search regardless - but in court this can help
    - If you are not under arrest, you have the right to calmly leave.
    - You have the right to a lawyer if you are arrested. Ask for one immediately.
    - Do not interfere with or obstruct the police.
    - Do file a written complaint or call your local ACLU if you feel your rights have been violated

Law and order has taught its viewers a lot..

It doesn't have to be latex.

    Leave no witnesses.

The gunshot residue will still get on your clothing so you need to bleach and burn your clothing. It gets on you the moment your gun discharges so leaving the scene won't really avoid it. Showering thoroughly will get rid of the residue. Always make sure to commit a crime with a gun you don't 'legally' own, because they can track you through that. Considering the system they most often use to find you is by inputting search words like what type of car was used, what type of gun, who has been arrested for similar crimes -etc., and having all the databases report back that compile a list of the most likely suspects.

Do you mean the ballistics? That won't really give you away unless they find your gun to match it too, yeah. They can also match the type of ammunition used to recent purchases from gunstores to help get an ID. It is also possible to remove the bullet or use some type of ammunition like an 'ice bullet' that gets rid of itself naturally.

Again, it will only help them track you if they spot the number on the gun from a video camera, which is unlikely, or manage to get the gun in the first place. But still a good idea when you dispose of it.

As I said before they can also match it to the type of ammunition used, and who has made purchases of it recently at local stores.

Internet leaves too much of a trail unless you're very smart and experienced. And it would take an awful lot of time to set up something like that unless you regularly perpetrate cyber crimes.

If you can prearrange the spot you kill them, you can cover the area in a carpet beforehand and kill them on it, then roll them up in the carpet or sheet, or whatever, and dispose of their body. Bleach everything, especially blood. Fire only works when rubber or tar burns and gets on the DNA.

Wax and wear a condom. Bleach condom afterward to remove their DNA and yours, and dispose of it somewhere else. Bleach anything you were on or touched, and burn as much of it as you can (sheets -etc.) and dispose of it at another site.

Disconnect their phonelines or power beforehand. Confiscate or damage their cellphone (if you're capable of getting access to it before the crime). Choose an area to perpetrate the crime somewhere near an expressway, so if need be you can quickly escape. Or by woods, where you can quickly dispose of the evidence, ride a dirt bike to a car where you can load the bike onto a truck and make your escape. Then come back for it later if necessary. Always have an escape plan.

Guns are loud and leave too much evidence so it's better to kill a person silently by strangulation or blunt force trauma. This means you have to pick your target better, and have less room for error, because they may be able to overpower you or escape in a physical confrontation.

Disposing of their body is also essential because if you can't find the body, there's no crime. Ideally you want to dispose of it as far away as you can (several states away if possible) bleach the body, shatter the teeth and usually the bones as well, and hasten the decomposition of the flesh if you have the means to. You want to make it as hard as possible for them to I.D. the body. Chopping them up and or giving them an acid bath works, although it's messy and they could be able to trace the acid back to you since it's not easy to get access to and any purchase of large quantities of acid gets reported. Disposing the body in a swamp can work well too. You never want to dispose of the body in cold water since it'll preserve it. Warm water, especially swampy water, is a better idea since it'll dissolve the body quickly and hide it.

Also, you want to steal any vehicle you use to perpetrate the crime and dispose of it afterward by ripping out the carpets and ideally seats, steering wheel, pedals and bleaching everything, dousing the car in gasoline and igniting it (making sure the tires burn too, since the tar from the rubber burning is what kills off any evidence but also makes it easier to spot the fire). The carpets and seats are most important, but it's not necessary to get rid of them if you did the aforementioned or were 100% sure you and the body left no evidence.

The reason you want to steal a vehicle is because if there's any chance any piece of your car breaks off or gets left behind you're screwed since serial numbers are on every part of a car, multiple times. If you ever leave a piece of your car behind in a crime and the car belongs to you, they'll catch you, and it also makes it harder to chop shop vehicles. Most 'chop shopping' done nowadays is by removing the parts of a stolen car and using them to repair cars at other mechanic shops elsewhere. It pretty much gives the mechanic shops direct profit, since they never pay for the parts they replace, but charge people as if they did.

The goal isn't always necessary to make it so the bodies or skeletons are never found, but it takes authorities as long as possible to find them. If they find the body when you're dead, you'll never be caught, and if they do somehow link the murders to you it won't matter at that point. Evidence degrades, gets lost, or becomes harder to find; witnesses die or their memory becomes foggy and questionable.

Lots of people die everyday, and it's not just because of murders. Thousands of people disappear, die through an accidental death, get kidnapped and enslaved and forced to live elsewhere...and so on. It's easy for people to fall through the cracks and for them to fall into one of those categories.

Another important thing to commit a perfect crime is to have no connection whatsoever to the person that you're killing. You can get away with killing somebody you know, but it will never be perfect if you ever fall under scrutiny as a suspect or have a motive.

Or it can also mean some of us either have a degree in criminal law or paralegal, and over the course of college some students are given past cases to look over and study.

Lawyers along w/ other various justice departments solve and piece together cases differently, and for the most part they assume the role of the perpetrator.
(now by assuming the role of the perpetrator I'm referring to them pretending to be the perpetrator and come up w/ ideas on how they would commit so and so crime to solve xwz case)

Lawyers along w/ other various justice departments use all available resources when taking down someone, so why wouldn't they attempt to think like the perpetrator to finds clues and hints...
(If one can think of a perfect crime, then another person can think of ways to solve them)

Knowing how to commit crimes isn't a crime. For example I could go on and tell you how to steal other people's credit card informaiton and then make fake credit cards with their information on it, but that doesn't mean I advocate doing it. Knowledge is free.

This thread is so funny XD, But the perfect i would say would be a cold case. Well not perfect but, Cold cases the suspect has never been caught. Well, Maybe they were arrested but not enough evidence.

Another thing is if you are going to commit a string of crimes, don't perform them near one another, make sure the center of pattern of crimes is NOT near where you live, and also make sure the crimes over all are committed well outside your city. Also commit them in random order and in random locations. Geometric pattern recognition software can otherwise link the crimes together and/or find you as a possible suspect (if there is any way that the pattern points to your home).

    That's boring!
I'd rather start doing it in one pattern, then switch to other and then other and so on and so on...
To troll the police, of course.

Knowledge is free, yes, but it's really not going to help you if the police become suspicious of you and you have this sort of information lying around on your computer hard drive or in browser cache files.

I have no intent to commit any violent crime (robbery, murder, arson, rape, etc). So the police won't ever have any reason to arrest me. The thread I posted here is just for informational purposes. I'd be more worried about owning a copy of Law&Order:SVU on DVD. Those have for more detailed info on the commission of crimes, and more details on forensic techniques than I've posted here. If I had a DVD of L&O:SVU in my DVD rack, and the cops investigated me, they might think I was a rapist. That's why I just watch it on TV. Having DVD's about crimes (even only about fictional incidents) might give cops the wrong idea about me.

You make it sound a lot more complex than it is.

And what are they going to become suspicious of? You can't charge someone with a crime based on conjecture and forum posts they made discussing how to commit a perfect crime. Writing and or distributing anarchy cookbooks isn't illegal. It's only illegal if you use or plan on using them (and that requires a lot of evidence, and usually bomb-making material to actually convict somebody).

If they want to become suspicious they're more than welcome to. I enjoy a good investigation into my squeaky clean lifestyle. Lord knows - the cops stop me and search me for whatever reason they can as is.

I have heared in a few gangster movies where people on the streets have a "No Snitching" policy but it is an unspoken rule. In my opinion, if someone doesnt want to talk to the police, they must be involved or must be a criminal themselves.

Snitches get stitches. I won't say the rest.

Usually that's the criminal code, yes. But there is no honor among thieves, or murderers.

Even the mafia, which was all about family and honor, snitched each other out.

There are plenty of so-called, world leaders and governments who blantantly get away with crime because their powers over wealth and resources is such that they are allowed to do so; so in that sense, a perfect crime is possible.
