School Buses

So, it's around 3:45 and the school is out and buses are dropping kids off. Outta the corner of my eye I see a guy pass the school bus on the opposite side of the road. Now let me clarify, the side the car was one has no housing, just grass and marsh.Clearly no kids would have crossed the street. However it's illegal still on base. So I pull him over and he swears by his mom, that off of base civilians can pass a bus as long as it's opposite of them, or there is clearly no reason for them to cross the street.

I'm curious is this true? Or was he trying to get outta a ticket..

It's a load of bull, dude. Now in some countries there's a law that allows folks to pass public buses under certain circumstances. But that's public transportation buses only, not school buses. If you wish, you should be able to ask local police or folks acquanted with the law in that area for specific laws that give you further guidance.

Also, being that you're taking about on base and off base, I'm assuming your military. So a quick phone call to the J.A.G. office or even the Military Police/Security Forces for a question should settle it.

Well you being a Marine I couldn't have said it better myself. lol J/K man. I'm prior Air Force with a lot of family in the Marines, as well as the other branches. Good on you for not buying into that crap, though.

Awesome job, devil dog. lol You probably would get chewed out, but it helps to know the laws you enforce. Especially out in the local area (off base).

I hear that's an extremely boring job when you have to stand on guard all day.

I've been deployed twice which was fun, but I don't stand guard at the gates, I drive around in my Impala LT, looking to prosecute the guilty, lol. Fridays and Saturdays are the best. You should hear the calls we get.

Oh well, I hope to switch to FAST Co which is really fast paced.

As some one who has ridden the school bus from kindergarten-12th grade + a grade... It is in fact very illegal to pass a school bus going in any direction. Even if the road is a four lane road and you have two lanes in your direction, you're not allowed to pass in the spare lane either.

One of my busses one year used to stop on our towns busiest highways so we'd always get people running the signs.. So we had a kid in back with a paper and pen to turn around and jot down the plate number. It was bus wide effort to get the plate number down.

Oh...... And I don't live anywhere near a base.

On base, off base... All kids safety is important no matter what their parents professions and living quarters are.

The difference would be that American school buses are free...unless you're gonna tell me that all buses in the Netherlands are free to all :P
