I recently joined an anime club at my high school. I've never been to one so i dont know what its like. I know we're watching anime, but apparently we do other stuff as well. Has anyone else joined an anime club, and what's it like?

I was in an anime club in high school and then also in college. We pretty much just sat and watched anime. In the end I kinda just stopped going because I could be doing the same thing in the comfort of my own room XD
Yeah, I made a thread about this a couple years ago, lol.
I dunno how I feel about anime clubs at school. I mean...not so much the club as the people in it. I have a lot of friends I consider 'normal' people, but they don't (nor do I) join the club, simply because 95% of the members are just...odd. Way too extroverted about anime to the point that it's obnoxious. Like, I'm a huge anime fan, I've watched a good amount of shows, but I don't go around wearing it on my wrist. Not because I'm embarrassed that I watch anime (believe, me when I say I can't be embarrassed) but because I don't wanna be totally...just out there/in your face about it.
I'm sure there are plenty of 'normal' people in anime clubs, it's just that a vast majority seem to be on the other half of the spectrum.

I wish we had anime clubs at high school and college.
Know that you're all lucky people in my opinion. xD
THIS THIS THIS
And I remember when they were hugging and singing along in the Opening and Ending cinematics.
My friend and I were like "Screw you weirdos, I'm going home". And just avoided it for the 3 remaining years of High School. (We went our freshmen year).
And Video Gamer club was more normal....less irritating.

Clubs, I don't think my schools have had any types of clubs, I just think we....you know, went home after school.
My friend and I were like "Screw you weirdos, I'm going home".
That was pretty much me, too.

I don't feel the need to join any anime club. Besides from what I read from all of you here, it's not as fun as I thought it would be.

Thanks to Ms Lucy for this awesome, funny gif.
The person that you are now is not the person that I used to know. You're becoming a stranger that I've never met before. Not liking the change though.

At least your high school has an anime club ~ Though it sounds fun, hanging out with people who like to watch anime. I would love to be in a club like that. :3
So as far as i can tell from your guys info, anime clubs at high school are really obnoxious and in your face? Oh, I was also wondering what other people outside the club would think of you if i were to join?
I'm a pretty normal dude, not to crazy and not to boring. I realy wanted to join a club my senior year, and was thinking about joining the anime club. It just sounds like fun y'know? I can't belive it's getting such bad rep here though! But now i want to join it even more to see what all the fuss is about...
Explorer Oak ~ Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's seed, that held its ground. Never give up!
The anime club members in my college are weirder than the one in my high school. I cannot judge since I'm weird myself, but not at their ”level”.
The president of the club is a big black guy that likes to walk around the hallways of the college in a sailor moon or princess peach outfit.
I'm like, ”well at least he is enthusiastic”. Lol.

There's no harm in going just once or twice to get familiar with the atmosphere of the club. Just don't sign up for any obligations until you feel comfortable with the other members. And I don't think you should really concern yourself with what people who aren't in the club think about you. Sure, there's always the risk of some jerk being... well, a jerk about it, but it's the same with many other groups and clubs, like band or drama for example. You learn to ignore it and then they'll eventually stop bugging you about it.
