Most Popular Anime Characters (Forum Contribution)

My podcast is doing a top 100 (maybe 50) countdown of people's favorite anime characters. I am reaching out to anime forums across the web to get peoples favorite anime character submissions.

To nominate, please just write the 10 characters you would like to nominate and the series from which they originate. They can be any characters, new or old. If you nominate more than 10, I'll likely just take the first 10.

I don't have extensive knowledge of anime, but these are my favourites of the series I have watched so far.

1. Matsuda from Death Note
This is a biased choice, I know. I just think he is a great comedic element to what is otherwise a fast-paced and intense series.
2. L from Death Note
A unique character, who is captivating without being the stereotypical man-candy :P
3. Aizen from Bleach

 

A powerful, unexpected villian who supplies a quality plot-twist!

4. Light from Death Note
He's just so clever! Also, the fact that he is the main character of a highly popular series who isn't likeable to all makes him interesting. He raises a lot of philosophical questions to the audience.
5. Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club
Not your average female! I like that her character is relatively gender neutral, which makes her controversal.
6. Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club
Everything he does is hilarious.
7. Naruto from Naruto
This character allows the series to veer from comedy to tragedy and paints a picture of how determination can sometimes pull us through hardship and disadvantage.
8. Sasuke from Naruto
Contrasts Naruto. Shows how hardship can breed despair.
9. Tomoya from Clannad

 

Allows us to see how attitudes can change and how a boy who is thought of as a 'bum' and 'no good' can bring something beautiful to the world if given a chance.

10. Sunohara from Clannad
Basically the same as Tamaki.

Anime is the Japanese word for animation, yes.
However, when the word is used in English it's in reference to animation of Japanese origin.

Why would someone go out of their way to use a foreign word when they could have just have easily said "animation" or "cartoon"?
