Need advice

During my parent's divorce my dad gave me his wedding ring dunno why but he did but it doesn't quite fit any of my fingers except my thumb. I dunno if I should alter it to make it more my style or keep it as it is. Dunno what it's worth either except it has a simple oval black onyx set into it, what should I do with it?

Wearing your dad's wedding ring after he gets divorced seems, I dunno. Like you're making some kind of statement. I'd guess he gave it to you since he didn't want to deal with it anymore, but didn't just want to throw something of value into the garbage.

I guess what you do might depend most on how you feel about the whole situation. If the situation is toxic enough maybe sell if, if you're looking to make lemons into lemonade maybe have it significantly reworked and wear it, if you're going to go all Parent Trap on them than keep it. Might be best to just set it in a drawer for a few months.

It's been in a box since I moved house after it all became finalised last December been struggling to think what to do with it. As the situation hasn't been that toxic and they are still civil towards each other if they do see each other out and about, I may ask my dad what he thinks about it being remade into something else as it doesn't feel right leaving it as it is but feels odd thinking of changing it

I think that just like my expired passport becomes a regular piece of paper, so does the ring become a regular piece of jewelry.
Onyxes aren't really my taste, but you could wear it on your thumb, like I do some rings I have. Or find a gipsy/jew that'll melt it into a different jewel piece and steal a few grams of gold from you by adding sand or other metals to fill the weight gap.

I think you should keep it for it's sentimental value.
Don't alter it or pawn it, just hold onto it.

But if I just hold onto it I'm scared about losing it and never being able to find it again, if I wear it then I know where it is at all times

No need to he's been going out to the clubs far more than I do, well I don't go to them as I find clubs very intimidating for some reason
