I loved the James Bond part of the opening ceremony. It was brilliant
lol Sorry about that.
It's a shame John Cleese wasn't in the Opening Ceremony. Maybe he'll closes out the Olympics in true Monty Python style! Would've loved to see Elton John, Queen, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne play a song too.
go japan i live there
I personally don't care for the Olympics.
I'm going to be rooting for the USA, Japan and Italy.
Gotta go with home country so come on Britain let us show our Bulldog spirit and Lion roar!!!!
NHS being glorified and whatsoever at olympics opening .... and in reality this stuff happens
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/ar...glorified.html
sad ... truly sad ....
Well, technically you are allowed to express such, but it's makes little to no sense. Unless you prefer being a "Little Debbie Downer", as we say in the Military World. And no, the world would not be boring if only positive opinions are expressed. There would be a lot less said, but I wouldn't mind. I mean, Am I the only person that believes that "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?
Surely, you have the right to moan and groan about crap, but what's the point if all you are doing is moaning and groaning? Looks a bit more "boring" with all that complaining.
"if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" is only an excuse to avoid hearing things you dislike.
If someone opens a discussion, be it in real life or on the Internet, if anyone with a negative opinion is shut out then it just turns into back-patting.
Although, this isn't that sort of thread, yes, but I see no reason as to why someone can't express that they dislike the subject matter.
Besides, it's not like I said anything that wasn't "nice", my post was more nuetral than anything in tone and to be quite honest a post critiquing or complaining the Olympics would have actually had more of a right to be posted than my apathetic one due to the fact that it would have been more productive than mine.
I find it amusing how you pull out the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" but then you start with the name-calling and snide commentary.
Some people don't enjoy the same things as you, get over it, I wasn't the one who made a case out of a simple comment expressing apathy.
Any who lets get back to the Olympics shall we?
To be honest, there's a difference between an opinion that is just a means of acceptable disagreement of opinion, and an opinion that's posted just to be an arse. I don't think it's wrong to post saying that one is indifferent towards the Olympics. It's like when people post saying they're sick of Jehova's Witnesses disrupting them..
okay bad example, but you get my point.
(in other words I am saying @Magician is not in the wrong even if it may well be something that might be better off not being posted.)
Also I didn't watch the opening ceremony, and I haven't actually watched ANY Olympic footage thus far.
Ranshiin: Apathetic towards the Olympics before it was cool. :|
edit
That said, I AM still wanting Britain to kick everyone's donkey at this. Even though I know they won't (which is why I'm so decidedly meh towards all this.)

Here's a metal tracker for those wondering about that, http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2012/medals
Also, had several surprises today on day one. Phelps not getting a metal in the 400 IM, China kicking butt in swimming, and China and Japan falling short in the Gymnastics. Plus Alexandr Vinokurov of Kazakhstan winning a Gold in Men's Road Cycling. Britian, still not on the podium yet, but don't fret. Typically Host nations see a 50% increase in medal counts during their hosting games.
I watch mostly for the sport. I root for all the countries and that memorable moments come from each game.
I liked the opening ceremony, especially James Bonds intro, the 100 foot creepy Voldemort, and Bean's orchestra. Not to offend those that chose to have the young athletes light the flame, but I was seriously wishing for David Tennant, dressed as the Doctor, to light it. I say this not just because of the episode from 2006 that takes place in 2012, but because Doctor Who is an iconic figure of British pop culture for decades and a symbol of heroes that protect peace everywhere. Come to find out, one day too late, that there was a petition to have Tennant be the official lighter.

They have amazing long distance runners
I think it's pretty certain that they are going to at least place in the top three for most long distance events...it could be close though between Kenya and Ethiopia.
Do you have Kenyan origins then?

I agree about the lack of British comedy! It would've been nice to see some Blackadder and 'Only Fools and Horses' included in the mix up.
Overall, I enjoyed the start of the ceremony when they read a section of Shakespeare and I cried when the children's choirs sang the national hymns. However, I felt that the celebration of British music dragged on too much...what was with the random couple-getting-together scenes?!
There was a brief clip of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' during the music montage, but I guess they can't recreate them very well, what with Freddie being dead ;(
I loved that Macca came on...he's truly amazing for his age, you forget how long ago the Beatles were playing
Also, gotta love the Voldemort puppet...I still think they should've had some people on broomsticks playing Quiddich and flying through the Olympic rings though! ;P

Additionally, concerning @Magician 's comment, guys, she's entitled to her own opinion and I don't think her first comment was in anyway trying to put any of our opinions down.
She was just stating how she felt; I don't see a problem with that.
Personally, I don't like how politicians were harping on and on about the Diamond Jubilee and 'Britishness' this year. What I like about the Olympics is that you can support any country that you like and see the merits of other cultures.
Nobody cared that Bolt was Jamacian and not from their country when he won. All they saw was an amazing man with god-given talent.

On the up side, the manufacture of the medals probably gave someone a job for a year or two xD
