Question (major spoiler?)

I have not actually started watching NGE yet, but in my search for the DVDs, my eyes flicked across a sentence that said "the death of Rei".

Not even knowing who Rei is, my question is - have I accidently spoiled a major plot point? I hope that I have ruined too much...
