I guess in about 1999 ? When Pokémon first aired? or was that 2000? No idea, but the first time i REALLY started to follow an anime was in Oct. 2011. ^__^
about when i was 7.
I guess when Pokemon aired in America- but like, RIGHT as it aired. Then I watched Toonami all throughout elem and middle school, but infrequently so I couldn't follow many shows closely. Only really got into anime in 9th grade when I started converting shows people uploaded on YouTube to my iPod.

Well, putting Pokemon and Digimon apart it was like 2 years ago, I wish it had been much earlier :P

I started watching anime when I was seven or eight, but my enthusiasm about anime began in December 2007.
For me it was back in 2003 or 2004 and my first anime ever was Transformers:Cybertron. I still love that show it was deffenitly one of the best transformers out there in my opinion...except for the G1 series that one will always rock.
When I was younger,I watched Inuyasha on Adult Swim, but I had no idea it was an anime, and I didn't follow it closely.I also watched Naruto, but again I did'nt knownit was an anime and I didn't really follow it.When I really started was the third marking period of 7th grade.I was a weird little nerd. This girl, who I will not name, tried to be nice and talk to me.But,she kept referring to countries as he/she.I asked her,and she recommended me Hetalia.I watched it,and fell in love.I then watched Hetalia,Clannad,I rewatched Inuyasha, and started Kaichou wa maid-sama.Thus began my delicious love affair with anime.
I wen poof for awhile, huh? Sorry, I guess I just kinda...dropped off. School started.
When now I'm back, have more anime under my belt, and am ready to join you all again.
I can't remeber but my first anime was Sailor Moon and pokemon back to back when I was little.
Toonami started it all for me I remember watching it everyday.
Back in the 80's when they were still cartoons

Granted, when I first started, didnt know they were called anime. That would be the old Mecha animes that came to the states back in the late 70's early 80's and shown on regular cartoon slots. Voltron, Macross(Robotech), Gundamn.
Thru the years I might watch one or two that would come on, would like them, but never got sucked into the anime scene. Then a few months ago, had High School of the Dead pop up in my Horror (zombie) section on netflix and loved it. So started looking at myanimelist site and picking different stuff from there. Their forums are good, but was looking for something more diverse, which then lead me to find this forum, which I love with all its different sections.
I was in grade 8 or 9...I started watching Sailor Moon. I wasn't an anime fan then...just someone who liked Sailor Moon. I only started watching it as a fan of the genre this year.

In 1991; I was 2.

I think Yu-Gi-Oh was the first one I ever watched as a kid, I loved it so much I actually STILL have a collection of 2000+ cards that I made my parents buy me when I was little.
Then it was Pokemon
then around 12 or 13 I was introduced to Naruto and it just kinda took off from there.
It seems that Pokemon and other kids anime are like gateway drugs because once you get into it, it's so hard to stop.
I'd seen a couple shows before, but didn't get really into it until last August.
maybe a year or 2 ago?
i knew what it was before that though
I watchd Dragon Ball Z as a kid, and I got into other shows in my late teens.
Was addicted to Sailor moon back in high school, but didn't really start watching until my bf introduced me to Evangelion about 3 yrs ago.
I watched Sailor Moon when it used to show on Toonami and my friend was obsessed with it for a while so sometimes I'd watch it with her, too. I've also been watching Pokemon since I was really little and InuYasha since 5th grade. But I had no idea they were anime or what anime was. I didn't start consciously watching anime specifically until 7th grade, after my friend got me to watch Naruto.
I used to watch Hamtaro when I was little but had no idea it was anime xD
but to be honest I've only been watching it and keeping up with it since August of 2011.
