I started watching anime about 5 years ago. The first anime I ever watched was Naruto.
I started about four years ago and haven't looked back since. One of the best decisions I've made hands down.
Err...Started watching it knowing it was anime when I was in-6th grade. So-for me that'd be about 1998? So-14 years ago....Gaws I'm old. D8

In 2009 after I read the first volume of Vampire Knight. Then, just on a whim, I decided to youtube it and the anime episodes came up. At the time, I just thought it was some cool cartoon thing. I had no idea about anime in particular and then I learnt that pokemon was an anime. And I got more into manga as well after that point.

Last year was the first anime I watched that captured my interest and got me into the genre (had roomates and friends long before that watched anime, but I never got into it). Think it was June or July 2011. Definitely a good time that I'll remember for along time. I might have to pin point the date, and mark it on my calendar. I think my 1 yr anniversary has already passed though dangit! lol

Yep, I dont watch tv hardly at all, but I do when I stay up late the day or two before starting a rotation of nights. Was getting bored with regular shows on tv and netflix, and just decided on a whim to start checking out anime again. Still a few I wasnt interested in but when I stumbled onto Claymore it was like hitting a landmine of awesomeness. Seems after that I've had good luck of randomly picking some good ones too. Seeing Claymore the first time was definitely one of the greatest tv moments I've had ever, lol. I know its not for everyone but for whatever reason it appeals to me like nothing ever has (well except the ending). I missed out on the stuff more for kids when I was younger, and I dont really care for that anime now, but I dig a lot of the teen+ or MA rated stuff.

The first anime I saw was when I was in 2nd grade back in 1992. Tekkaman Blade if I remember correctly it aired on UPN, pretty sure it was on the weekends. After that I hit Macross or "Robotech" up. Also, on Saturday mornings the Sci Fi channel played different anime movies. 8 Man After, Casshan, Project A Ko, Dominion: Tank Police, oh man memories lol! I remember watching those movies and thinking "This is SO much better then Disney!".
1993, YuYu Hakusho.

I watched Pokemon as a kid but I started to watch different anime series when I was 11.
Normal? What's normal? To only do what the masses do? And what is the benefit of that? Where is the problem in adopting a custom that is 'abnormal' if it has no negative affect on the world at large?

I think Yu-Gi-Oh was the first one I ever watched as a kid, I loved it so much I actually STILL have a collection of 2000+ cards that I made my parents buy me when I was little.
Then it was Pokemon
then around 12 or 13 I was introduced to Naruto and it just kinda took off from there.
It seems that Pokemon and other kids anime are like gateway drugs because once you get into it, it's so hard to stop.
I started watching anime as a hobby about last year, watching shows as they are airing and so on, I'm watching about five different series from this season.
Before that I was still watching anime but they were all series and movies that already aired and were simply available to come across.
How do I stop sucking at Touhou?!
Great idea for a thread. I'm very new to Anime. I've only been into for about a year and its only been in the last month that I've got serious about exploring all the different series. I'm having a great time.
Hmm guess i started when i was 6, Back in 1998 :3
For me it began back in the late 70's. As a kid I grew up watching everything from Force Five to Robotech to Voltron to Grandizer. Battle of the Planets or G-Force as I knew it. From there it just progressed.
Mine was Pokemon and Yugioh when I was younger but can't remember. But after those I started to watch Naruto and started Shippuden. I got bored of shippuden so I starting watching other animes.
When did I first watch anime? Lol! Probably when I was eleven or twelve! One of those ages were when I first saw Ah! My Goddess but I may have watched InuYasha when I was like ten....
