Are there any family drama/comedy anime or manga series?

Stuff like "Last Man Standing" or if you haven't heard of that maybe you've heard of some of the older ones in the genre like "Lassi" or "The Cosby Show".

Anyway, I'm curious if the genre is ever touched on. If not, is it because they do that sort of thing with live action?

You might want to try Kimagure Orange Road. I personally didn't enjoy it all too much, but I was kind of on a supernatural anime kick and the atmosphere of this anime wasn't heavy enough. It's an older anime, but I find that those are often really good to watch with family.
