It came crawling to me
A friend it said
Its smile white as bone
And eyes inside its head
Like two snake-eyes dice
At Craps rolled
Some poor fools entire savings
Now gone and sold

But its wriggling form wrapped me
A mistress’s embrace
Will she my lady catch me here
Entwined, my face
Buried in the breast of another?
My heart staccatos
“Can you ever reach that spire”
That chant, a motto

Rolling tongue long and split
Two roads apart
But it begs me not to choose
But close heart
And turn myself t’ward home
So here we come
I still here lost in my mistress
With legs to weak to run
