Effects Of Watching Horror Movies

It is a proven fact that people love to be scared by horror movies. But have you ever been too scared? What movies made you jump at night, sleep with the night-light on, stare not the hall way, and so forth?

For myself, there were 3 movies that stayed with me for awhile. The first one was a clown movie called, IT(AKA Pennywise The Clown). It's probably why I hate clowns now.

Second movie will be, The exorcism of Emily Rose. Need I say more?

Third movie, whilst I can't remember the name, I always thought someone or something was under my bed. When I was young, I would always check the closet, and lunge onto my bed from a distance due to fear of the monster living underneath.


So, what scary movies had you guys doing craazy stuff? Anyone still scared of certain movies?

When I was a kid and watched Jurassic Park for the first time I could barely watch it because I found it so scary. I was hiding behind the sofa and peaked at the television from time to time, just to end up hiding myself again. My parents must have found me silly.

I don't get scared as much by movies like that anymore, but I still look away sometimes but that is mostly because sometimes it's just so disqusting.

See there's like different horror movies, the ones that are just plain gore and blood which don't really frighten me, and then there's those movies with the suspense that tease the viewers. My friends and I go see horror movies time to time, not only to enjoy the movie, but to see who gets frightened the most ^^

I love horror movies (I guess Marble Hornets wouldn't really qualify as a movie, but *mumblemumble*). As long as they are like any other good movie; thought-out characters, captivating plot, etc. I don't go for the whole blood-gore-and-screaming-fest that a lot of modern movies are being made as nowadays. But contrary to what a lot of people prefer, I always HAVE to watch my horror movies in the scariest circumstance possible. At night, alone (or with a couple of others; never in the theatre though), no other lights on, etc. Rain or other foreboding weather is a nice touch, too. :3

I can not stand Signs... my hubby wants to try to get me to watch it at night, but I refuse to. Even daylight. I think that stems from some show a watched when I was 10... supposedly video of actual alien abductions or whatever... the image of one of them stepping out of the kid's closet, freezing him, and taking the camera from him freaked me the hell out. :s For a few years after that, I couldn't sleep unless I knew that the closet door was latched properly (so I could hear it opening) and that my bedroom door was pulled shut and latched as well. And then the nightmares... I just have issues I 'spose.

Scary movies - that is, those which employ suspense and such and are not just slashers - do not scare me. They never have, even as a child. Me and my mother would watch most of them as comedies - the more recent ones - and the older movies more acclaimed as 'frightening' as dramas. The only things that really get to me are blood - and by blood I mean spurting blood in excess amounts, but that's more a factor of disgust rather than fear. Oh, and spiders.

On that thread, rather lamely, the only movie which ever bothered me for an extended period of time was LOTR (the spider cave), and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Saw, Splice, and Paranormal Activities serieses made me not just have nightmares but piss my pants. and yes ik ik why does a 16 year old piss his pants when he gets scared DONT JUDGE!

I don't like horror films. Sure, I know I'm completely out of the norm, but there are enough things in my REAL LIFE to be scared about, so why do I want to sit in a DARK ROOM to "escape" reality only to face new fears and add scary thoughts/images to my nightmares?

It seems to me most people who regularly watch horror become completely desensitized, leaving them yearning to push the envelope more, trying to get that thrill again. I enjoy thrillers somewhat and a touch of dark/mystery (m night shyamalan is as far as I go) but like I said, there's enough scary things in real life - just watch the news.

What can I say about this, I think you'll lose all your sanity and have nightmares for the rest of your life. I dunno, but I couldn't sit and watch everything. I stopped at a certain scene. Just look up the movie... it's too much. Don't tell me the "I lost my sanity" crap. You didn't, and even if you did, your sanity will never come back to you.

I wouldn't even call that movie a horror movie, I would rather just call it disgusting, I can't find a better word to describe it, it's just disgusting in every way possible.

Anyways, I ain't really scared of horror movies anymore, since i've already watched pretty much every horror movie that's worth watching. The one that I personally liked the most is Silent Hill. It sends chills up my spine every time i watch it, it's just brilliant, and it's got quite the unique story too.

As a kid I LOOOOVED horror movies. I could watch the poltergeist, exorcism, IT, The Sixth Sense.. ALL OF THEM I LOVED

My mother didn't understand....

Though as I got older in my teens, I started to be scared by horror movies. Now I flinch, hide my face etc. DO NOT WANT!!! >.>

IT scared me, but not really into hating clowns. I've hated clowns anyway, I don't see how they're supposed to entertain kids, they're creepy.

I'd say the movies that effected me the most are the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series. I was afraid to sleep xD

I've not watched that much in terms of Horror films. I've only seen Saw and The Human Centipede. To be honest I've never that much in terms of interest in the genre which is odd as I like Horror games and animes

Well, I'm not quite fond of watching horror movies.. I already watched one of the Saw series. and I was just stunned and if I can remember. I also can't sleep the other day. DX

When i was really little chucky use to scare the sh*t out of me and the crypt keeper it took me so long to get over that fear then when i grew up i found out it wasnt

real now i can watch it in pitch black with no one home cause it doesnt really scare me anymore
