Black it out, Ace. This bill is terrible, and everyone who agrees with it should be ashamed. I would like to make a note here, that MICROSOFT is completely against this bill. And that company alone weighs out the NFL and Marvel.

Then what will you do if SOPA passes and you'll never be able to get on AF ever again??? AF is doomed if SOPA is approved. Which do you prefer? One day in hopes of stopping SOPA, or not doing anything and SOPA passing and what could've just been a day ends up being for good?
I mean even if we do black out and SOPA is approved, at least we tried to stand up against it, which is better than not standing up and wondering if maybe us and more people got involved, if we could've changed it. We don't have much to lose except a mere day of fourming but hopefully a lot to gain. Gain some insight into how bad this bill is.

True, true. But I wonder if the Internet "Blacking out" will actually do something. It's just a bunch of sites (Granted a large number of but large and small sites), not the entire internet. Plus, it's not gonna stop piracy anyhow. Pirates will keep pirating like always.
Also, is any of this "blacking out" gonna include apps? Probably not, even if they could. I don't hear too much from Apple, Microsoft, and other super large corp. Sure there's google, and a couple of others, but will that be enough?
From where I stand/sit, the only one able to stop this is probably Obama. OR maybe this whole shin-dig makes everyone get off their butts and call their congressmen/women to tell them to quit herp-derpin' around and being idiots. But hey, 2015 we're gonna need passports to travel state to state anyways (That bill came, got passed, and went a long while ago.) and the indefinite detention bill was passed.... So what will we really do?
Deathblade, stop being a silly nerd.
You can live one day without sitting your arse on the computer, right?
This must be done, and brought way down to the deepest hole in hell. I'm not letting this ruin my YT career or my internet experience for that matter.

No.... I'm unemployed. Thus I spend my time on online college courses, and AF. If I had a job, Sure I could do it.
BUT on another note. All those wanting to actually do something productive (More so than an e-strike). Go here http://projects.propublica.org/sopa/. You can find you state congressmen and congresswomen, find out whether they are for it, against it, or even undecided about it. Look and find your Senators and Representatives, and contact those that are for it and those that are undecided, to sway them to vote NO.
I'm in. This is gonna affect some sites i visit(Besides AF).
Man that is whack!

It shouldn't matter, yes, but to politicians who don't care, it does. Again, I'm not doubting the fact that a bunch of sites going down isn't going to spread the word about SOPA. However, as it stands now, the blackout is only going to affect the subculture of people who use those sites. Its a large number of sites, but those sites only appeal to our Internet subculture. Outside of that circle, nobody is going to know or care. Like I said, I only knew the existence of a very, very small number of those sites; the others I didn't know about until a list was posted. If they were to blackout right now, I wouldn't know about it. And unless word were to get out to news outlets, neither would the politicians whose attention we are trying to grab by pulling this stunt.
In my opinion, we shouldn't be focusing on those within our subculture. If Wikipedia is going to get into it, great. This needs to get out to everybody. The "SOPA is going to cripple the Internet" message is not going to get through just because people can't get access to their LOLcats.
I didn't mention them because they were irrelevant to what I was saying (and so far, among those supporters, only Wikipedia is going to be involved in the blackout, making the others even more irrelevant). If the blackout is meant for us to stand up against SOPA, what else are we going to do for the day? Sit and twiddle our thumbs until the blackout is over? And once the blackout is over, is it business as usual? Is that the end of it?
I understand the message that sites trying to send, but is this message going to get through with what we have? It will certainly get through to people of our subculture, but what about everybody else? If Wikipedia, Yahoo, eBay, and Google went down, or even if they put banners on their sites, the message gets out to more people. But a bunch of gaming sites and blogs going down doesn't demonstrate the "crippled" Internet that we have been warning people about.
Indeed. But is that going to happen with the sites we have now? Again, other than Reddit and Wikipedia, the sites involved deal with our little niche of people. But what about getting that message beyond our nerdy community? A bunch of downed online gaming sites isn't much to talk about outside of our community (hell, news of it probably won't even spread outside of this little niche). But if Google or Twitter or Facebook put up banners, or even shut down, that would be hard for other people to ignore. Hell, the media would be hard pressed to ignore it, what with them using social websites now. If they are not personally affected by it, there will a bunch of people who will be and they are going to want answers from them.
If we are going to show people what this law will do to them, we need to hit hard. One's inability to access Minecraft isn't the end of the Internet. Even more so if they can just go about their business on Facebook until the blackout is over.
This is my war face.
This is what happens to trolls who mess with me.

go for it, the boneheads in D.C dont get the fact that you cant control the internet it is like trying to tell the sky not to rain and the wind not to blow
If history repeats itself, and moves in a circular path, then believing that whatever force is turning it is perfect, is all we can do as we move ahead. Pushed along by forces beyond our control, waiting, for the blade to be swung.

That's why you start small and go big. You're wanting it to just BOOM BAM BIG IMPACT right from the start... No... It's us small nerdy sites that are hopefully going to domino effect other bigger sites into joining. Small in size but big in numbers can say a lot... A drop of water slowly turns into a stream which slowly flows into a big ocean.
A small single seed blooms into a nice big flower... A small site like us + many other small sites + a few bigger sites, can make an impact. We still have time before the 18th. Maybe big sites will do it and make a big statement. You don't know. They can be keeping it hush hush. Either way, I say go for it.

iI was about to ask what the heck Vocaloid had to do with SOPA, then realised the whole copyright thing...
See, how problematic this is?
Also once again, @blueangel06661 has hit the nail on the head. Not taking anything away from anyone else or from wolfgirl, but there really isn't anything else I could add.

I say go for it. Put some kind of info or links about what SOPA is for those who don't understand. It's not the ideal way of tackling this, im not sure what is, but if enough sites close down then maybe someone in the media world, outside of the internet, would notice and tell the world what a stupid thing this is. Enough anger against the US for doing this should make them stop, if not for anything else but peace relations. I'm surprised there haven't been any riots or similar about this though, occupy wall-street etc has had tons of coverage but the possible shutdown of the internet, few people know about it. =S
@Kaitou Ace That's brilliant news! =]

Sure go ahead, I can survive a day without AF. Though, I don't think it will make such a big difference. But still, better then nothing.

About SOPA:
The congress have 'stopped it' http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/pol...elf034765.php#
But they have a backup plan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PROTECT_IP_Act
Voting about that next week http://keepthewebopen.com/sopa-vs-open

Saw that Kaito mentioned that the congress have putted the law on 'the shelf', before.

Season five of Game of Thrones
New episodes of Downton Abbey
No because there's no point protesting about a act that is now dead as a doorknob
it's not over, it's been sidelined. SOPA are seemingly talking about the bill with some of the blackout sites. (probably the big ones)
so, SOPA has been set back, but it's not actually over just yet
Article
Wikipedia are still intending to honour the 'blackout' so I suppose that all the sites that agreed to do it will do it.
So.... prepare for tomorrow to be the most constructive day of work, ever. o_o

I'd be absolutely hillarious if PSN and xbox live both blacked out too... The world wouldn't know what to do!
Even though things are looking up, I still say do it. No point in backing out now even though it's looking to be in our favor.. Better to say it and do it then as things look up, not do it and then they change their mind with "hmmm seems like they don't care as much in the end...."

Better yet, I think google and facebook/twitter should black out themselves. For one, it would create pandemonium. Two, with people not able to access their favorite Zynga games or read up on the latest gossip, they would freak. And three, with the people freaking out, they will lash out. Those are sites that I believe that would be greatly affected by SOPA in one form or another.
I wish I came here more often, but thumbs up! Now to get the lead admin of another forum to do so...
There is no absolute right and wrong. People judge as right what they personally consider pleasant, and judge as wrong what they personally consider unpleasant. Convincing others of what is right cannot be equated with teaching the Truth. It is just teaching others to agree with you. It is not about putting an end to error, but putting an end to opinions contrary to your own perceptions.~Lao Tzu
Yeah, DO IT!!!~ (for fun~~~ xD)
