    Default How is NGE confusing?

From what my cousins and friends say about NGE, they call it a total "mind frell". It may seem hard to understand the meanings and themes in the show, but most of them are allegory's to religion. Sure, some of the plot isn't clear cut as one sees it, but the themes are not that hard to discern. What do you think? Was it confusing? Why or why not?

Well don't forget the multiple endings, that never helps a show make sense. Plus orange tang?

The alternate ending is the true ending, I think.

I don't think that the anime is really confusling.
The references to religion is just a physical reference to the story. There is no real deeper meaning behind it

I'd disagree with you pretty strongly that there isn't any deeper meaning, there's several layers depending on how deep you want to go. And of course they differ depending on how you're analysing it, be it theologically (what religions it draws from, what statements is it making about those religions, is it positing a blending), psychologically (the characters mindsets and neuroses, what does it say about the human condition generally and the author specifically, as well as ideas about development and various theories), philosophically (obvious), physically (what actually, physically happens, how the Evas work, what the Angels are actually are) or socially (what it says about human society as a whole, Japanese society specifically, history, thoughts about the future, how an individual relates to their society).

Then you've got alternate endings, ideas about what actually happened on-screen vs what the creator intended, differences between manga and anime, literary analyses, and you quickly begin to get some idea why it's the phenomenon it is.

None of them are. Anno himself said it. All religious imagery is there to look cool.
Guess I can't blame you though, NGE is like quantum physics. If you say you understand it, it proves you don't.
