[News]10-Year-Old Pulls Gun After Candy Theft Joke

A 10-year-old Aiken trick-or-treater pulled a gun on a woman who said she would take his candy on Halloween.

According to a police incident report, the 28-year-old victim told authorities she recognized some boys from her neighborhood while they were trick-or-treating about 6:30 p.m. Monday near Schroeder and George streets and jokingly told them she would take their candy.

One 10-year-old in the group of about 10 juveniles responded with “no you’re not …” and then pointed a 9 mm handgun at her.

According to Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno, the clip was not in the gun at the time, but the boy did have a loaded clip in his possession.

The boy’s brother, also 10, told authorities he also had a gun.

The second weapon was recovered Tuesday morning.

The boy who pulled the weapon was brought to the police station where he was turned over to the custody of his parents.

Turno said the boys got the weapons from their grandfather without permission.

I actually heard about this. it is crazy how easy kids are able to get their hands on weapons. It is also crazy how they are free to roam the streets without their parents watching them while trick or treating e.e my parents were right with me until i was like, 13

So basically it's a case of bad parenting and grandpa not having his guns properly stored.

This is why guns should be locked up somewhere that nobody would touch them.

I inherited all of my dads guns. It sends chills up my spine every time I touch one of his handguns or rifles. My mother made a police officer disassemble one of the handguns and we got a gunsmith to disassemble another that was jammed.

I do not care for guns.

Only because people don't lock them up properly. If you have kids or even if kids visit from time to time you should have either a safe or a weapons locker. Even if you don't have enough money you can get an adequate one for kids for fifty dollars. Wouldn't recommend said safe but still better then a locked drawer.

The sad thing about this whole thing, is these kids went looking for the firearms in question. It's not that the grandparent didn't stow them away properly. This is what scares the Sh*t out of me, is when kids look for something to kill people with.

you have to remember that the area where many of these types of situations often happen are not only among all of us but in the deep inner city it's not that difficult to accquire a weapon. Most of the weapons are displaced and the ATF are chasing down firearms that can be obtained in an instant. The truth is the ATF have struggled to control the displacement of firearms from where they first originate and the displacement process can take a handgun anywhere. Even if purchased many of the lower middle class parental figures are foolish to follow their common senses by locking it in "daddies bedroom drawer" when as stated by several members here a safe is much more realistic option
