Fairy Tail or One Piece?

*EDIT* I've seen many people love both of this anime. Now I know why, and it's because Hiro Mashima, mangaka of FT, is a die-hard fan of One Piece!!! \m/ HAHA! And some other reasons.... (below/replies)
I wasn't been watching fairytail so far. I guess I'm just not hooked with it, but at first i really loved it!（;≧皿≦） Though I've seen some latest episodes because of my lil' bro. He's an effin Fairy Tail fan.. lolololzzz ｡◕‿◕｡ And now we've been comparing the two who's more awesome. \(^o^)/

Uggh!! I'm going to choose between my favorite animes.

One Piece and Fairy Tail have some few similarities like their characters and drawing style. It comes out that Fairy Tail is the one who's copying OP (others say), 'coz One Piece came out first and became very popular, but now they're both famous!

Now comparing the two I'd choose One Piece , not saying Fairy Tail is copying OP
(Fairy Tail doesn't!!). It's because I fell for One Piece first, so much fun watching or reading it! ^_^

I like them both, but I just started watching fairy tail recently, and I love it a lot more. Maybe it's the magic thrown in, along with the comedy that attracts me more. One Piece is still good though. I regret watching the 4kids version of it first though...

I didn't ever think there was a similarity between the two. o_o I've not actually read/watched Fairy Tail yet (I've been intending to) but from looking at the cover pictures ... the art style is markedly similar. I'm no know-it-all on art and animators and who does them, but if the same person did the art for both series, that wouldn't surprise me.


That said, having not watched or read Fairy Tail I can't really give more of an answer. I can only say that having read the synopses for both that I hadn't thought of them to be similar (I think I recall asking if Fairy Tail was similar to Soul Eater ... or maybe to something else x.o) so this had never crossed my mind. I'm a big fan of One Piece though.

I don't they are copying each other in terms of story or art. I prefer Fairy Tail's beginning and its concept (wizards and guilds bring out the RPG nerd in me) but the "I'll protect my friends!" and being super powerful with the power of friendship in both manga make me cringe.
One thing that Fairy Tail is hugely similar to is Monster Soul, also by Hiro Mashima. You can easily see the resemblances between the main characters (Aki = Natsu, Touran = Lucy, Mamii = Erza - and the less similar but still has identical roles as the rival James = Gray and as the pet Joba = Happy)

I've seen both series and I like One Piece more than Fairy Tail. The adventure and action in One Piece are much better than those of Fairy Tail.

Actually, Mashima's art is similar to Oda's because Mashima is an admitted diehard One Piece fan. Hence why there's a lot of resemblance between the two series.


I greatly prefer One Piece to Fairy Tail. Mashima's art is okay, but it's very episodic with little overarching story beyond that of the missing dragons - a plotline only mentioned in passing for the last 150 chapters. He also lacks the ability to create suspense. Look at the last arc, for example; starting off it felt like it was going to be a smaller arc, and suddenly it becomes a big arc while maintaining the feel of a small arc. It just didn't seem that important. But worst of all is that every major battle ends with "I believe in my friends!" followed by Natsu & Co. using a group-ish attack. In someone a different path, One Piece has the shining moments of glory upon victory, but the exact way in which victory comes about is variable: Luffy pounding someone into the dirt, a combo attack, Zoro or Sanji taking the lead, etc - Oda know that the reader knows they're a team, and that point doesn't really need to be driven home any further.

That, and One Piece's sense of adventure. They are constantly changing setting and moving forward, and discovering new parts of their world. In Fairy Tail on the other hand, they start in the guild headquarters, journey off to do a mission, and then end up back in the headquarters. There's no sense of journeying to new lands, or experiencing different cultures.

I do hate the whole "FRIENDSHIP!11111ONEONEOneeleventy9%" thing that a lot of anime/manga tend to be guilty of. I'm not necessarily saying that fighting for your friends is wrong, but it's when the entire concept of friendship becomes a means of permitting an overpowered, ridiculous attack or an impossible manner of comeback from the heroes' side. I know One Piece has those moments where Luffy is fighting for his friends, but it's barely in the way that is abused by, say, Yu-gi-oh (and I love how LittleKuriboh takes the piss out of it in the abridged series.)

So yeah. Hearing Fairy Tail has Friendship Syndrome isn't boding well for me now. But say, how is the anime in comparison to One Piece's anime? I rarely read manga so comparison of anime may be better. It might be the anime is less guilty of the friendship thing, but I could be very much wrong.

Just because the 4kids dub was awful, that doesn't mean that the original japanese dub or Funimation's redub are bad.

i've watched them both. i really love them. i'm really enjoyed by them. but since i met One Piece first then it always be the most lovely for me and until this time no one can beat it, i voted for ONE PIECE♥

I go with one piece, i watch both animes but one piece still has this kind of magical touch. And Luffy aims for being the best of the best, natsu aims for meeting dragnel right?

I actually prefer Fairy Tail because I love the story line way more than One Piece. Even if Fairy Tail had "copied" the style of One Piece I still think the storyline is better in Fairy tail
