I rarely chat, so I don't really care either way, but I guess would make things easier, but I guess it would also be harder to keep clean.

I've brought it up a few times in the past, but nevertheless we already have a chat function using RealChat that has four chat rooms in it, so there isn't really that much use for an IRC channel.

RealChat is just a java-based chat client for browsers. If you click the "Chat" link in the top menu then the chat window will open.

Every other anime site i go to has an IRC channel on some network, the one i use is irc.rizon.net

Well, I rarely even use AF's chatroom. But I think our Chatrooms' are just fine. No need to replace it.

I personally would prefer IRC to real chat because there are good IRC clients out there while the real chat client has a terrible interface. It can't handle the Japanese IME and just isn't that customization. No doubt setting it up would take a bit of work and I don't think Ace would find it worth the effort. The only real downside is to IRC is that noobs would have to find an IRC client, whereas real chat provides the client for you. Though it's possible to make a simple applet work as a client.

I disagree! The Realchat client has bots who prevent noobs from spamming, capsing AND cursing! And the bots tell you the weather, they wiki things for you, and they can do loads of other cool stuff. And it's very forum interactive. Chat rules.

It's easy to make IRC bots which would do the exact same. Have you ever used IRC?

Also there is no need for "setting up" all you do is join a free channel, i could make a channel for each animeglobe site and the time combined would be probably less than 30 mins

Piggy backing on another server would be extremely easy, but then you would have to work within their name registrar.

I had to get IRC because some scan groups decided that would be their only place to host releases. Prior to that, I had no interest in IRC at all. I think the current chat is good enough.
