Rock-Throwing Boy Hospitalized After Drive-By Crossbow Shooting

Police on Tuesday said a Southland boy is recovering after he was shot with a crossbow bolt after throwing rocks at a passing car outside his home.
Officer Dino Delimitros told the Associated Press the boy and a friend were throwing the rocks outside his home in the Linda Vista neighborhood Monday afternoon when a passenger in a black Toyota RAV4 pulled out a crossbow and fired.
The boy, whose name and age have not been released, was shot in the abdomen and taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.
Police are still looking for the shooters and no arrests have been made.

The kid got hit with a weapon and you guys are saying you should throw rocks or hit them with belts necause they don't learn which is a lie bevause children can also learn from non-violent punishments, thy're not some type of brainless animals you know. Not necessarily. I do agree that some can learn from non-violent punishments, but there will be some that has no effect on. I'm pretty sure getting shot with that crossbow will have that kid thinking twice or more the next time he wants to vandalize oncoming cars. In all seriousness though, I do agree that was a bit much using a crossbow.

The person who shot the crossbow should obviously be pursued and charged harshly, but we should recognize that the boys are also subject to being charged (as minors or otherwise) because they also committed crimes and contributed to this medieval turf war with illegal activities.

My main thing was that you don't really keep a loaded crossbow lying around, in a car O_o; constant stress on the rope lowers its effectiveness, you want to load and prime it (pull back the rope and lock it in the tightened position) shortly before shooting, and it takes about 30sec - 1min to do that, depending on the lb rating of the crossbow. I am not sure you can see a thrown rock, load and prime the crossbow, and aim and shoot, from a moving car on the spur of the moment.

Modern day crossbows are far from medieval. My mate hunts with one and it's made of modern materials, has a scope and various other features.
The kid was lucky the guy in the car didn't have a gun though. XD

Chances are it was already loaded since it takes quite a bit of effort to pull the string back and sitting in the car doesn't really give you the leverage to do that. Only thing left is either, like you mentioned, kept it loaded or it was self loading. I'd probably go with the later.

Pretty sure getting shot by a crossbow is quite enough punishment on its own.
