    Default 2012 elections

I read this opinion article, and it's pretty depressing tbh, but I wanted to know what you guys think, since obviously no one can predict the future.

Editor's note: James Moore is a Texas-based Emmy award-winning former national TV news correspondent and co-author of the best-seller, "Bush's Brain."

Austin, Texas (CNN) -- As a resident of Texas for 36 years, I keep wondering why the rest of the nation pays any attention to our political and cultural absurdities and yet still chooses Texans as presidents. Our most revered historical moment, the Alamo, was arguably a mass suicide. The slaughter in San Antonio was followed by a massacre at Goliad, the fall of the Confederacy to Union forces, and later by the Houston Astros. Texas has a legacy of losing.
None of this apparently matters, though, because America is beginning the process of electing another Texan to be president. Gigantic tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, a trumped up war and a ruined economy from the last Texan seem incapable of dissuading supporters of Rick Perry.
His Saturday speech in South Carolina will make clear that he is entering the race for the White House and will spawn the ugliest and most expensive presidential race in U.S. history, and he will win. A C and D student, who hates to govern, loves to campaign, and barely has a sixth grader's understanding of economics, will lead our nation into oblivion.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Politics: Rick Perry surges in poll
The big brains gathered east of the Hudson and Potomac Rivers believe that Mitt Romney is the candidate to beat. But they are unable to hear what Rick Perry is saying. The Christian prayer rally in Houston was a very loud proclamation to fundamentalists and Teavangelicals, which said, "I am not a Mormon." The far right and Christian fundamentalists have an inordinate amount of influence in the GOP primary process and, regardless of messages of inclusion, very few of them will vote for a Mormon.

"We think a them Mormons as bein' in kind of a cult," one of the Houston rally attendees told me. "I couldn't vote for one a them when we got a real Christian like Governor Perry runnin'."
Perry, of course, can't come right out and print bumper stickers that say, "Rick Perry -- 2012 -- Not a Mormon." But he doesn't have to. He's wearing his faith like a power tie while Romney stays quiet as a tabernacle mouse on the topic of religion. Romney has business experience and intellect that are not on Perry's resume' but he is from "Massatoositts," (Webster's Texas Edition, see also "Massachusetts"), and Texans love to kick their political boots into New Englanders' squishy parts. Perry is about to remind the tea partiers and fundamentalists that Romney created a state health care plan, (the horror, affordable health care for everyone), believes global warming is real, and has a troubling history for conservatives on the matters of abortion and gay marriage.
    So much for Mitt.

Michele Bachmann, who is from Iowa, and is Perry in Prada, has the same appeal among Teavangelicals. Her husband's reparative gay therapy sessions, the Newsweek cover and a few speeches that were not reality based will, eventually, make even the GOP primary voters realize she is bound for the desert and not the Promised Land.
Bachman will run close to Perry in Iowa but will disappear into the snows of New Hampshire where religious fervor isn't exactly considered a positive attribute. In South Carolina, Perry's money, image and support will become overwhelming.
Romney and Bachmann are the only serious impediments to the Perry nomination. Ron Paul, who makes more sense than any crazy person to ever run for public office, has never been able to expand his cult to the mainstream.

Herman Cain is too brutally honest and lacking political experience, and Tim Pawlenty, what's-his-face-from-Minnesota, suffers from the heartbreak of ineffectuality.
Fueled only by speculation that he might announce, Perry became the putative front-runner (heard that word at a fancy Washington restaurant and thought it was cool). Because presidential politics tend to be more visceral than intellectual, Perry's coyote-killer good looks, $2,000 hand-tooled cowboy boots, supernova smile and Armani suits, combined with podium skills to embellish the mythology of Texas, all will create a product Americans will want to believe and buy.
After he wins the nomination, protocol will require Perry to have discussions with Bachmann about the vice presidential slot, but he will, eventually, turn to Sarah Palin. The general election will force the Texan back toward the middle and he will stop talking about faith and abortion and gay marriage; Perry will campaign on jobs and the economy.
Palin, who is loved by the tea party as much as Perry, will keep the Teavangelicals animated while he tries to talk to the adults to win the election on a single issue: the economy, stupiderest!!! (Forget about Rudy Giuliani; the GOP cannot win New York, don't need it to take the election and Giuliani is wrong on gay marriage for this ticket).

The general election will, quite literally, decide the fate of a nation. Every time Team Obama criticizes the Texas economy for its minimum wage job boom, the president will be accused of attacking the working men and women of America. (Texas has created a large share of the new jobs in the United States in the last decade but studies indicate many of them are at places like Wal-Mart and Carl's Jr.)
President Obama will also get beaten up for presiding over the first bond rating downgrade in U.S. history as well as high unemployment. When the cold rains fall in early November next year, unemployed voters in places like Ohio will step into the booth and dream of a minimum wage job in the Texas sun selling fishing rods at big box sporting goods stores or working in call centers; they will vote against Barack Obama.
And in the process, they will write the epitaph to set upon the tombstone of history's greatest democracy: Perry-Palin, 2012.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of James Moore.
    article: http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/08/1...ate/index.html

I doubt Obama will lose next year, despite his current poll numbers, but just the fact that the GOP sees fit that someone like Perry is the best the whole 300,000,000 people in the US has to offer? It's a pretty grim reminder of where a huge chunk of the country stands on issues as if the 8 year fiasco of Bush didn't teach us anything.

Oh.. Is it going to be that time of our 4 years again? Yaaay nothing but signs littering up the grounds and stupid bumper stickers no one will care about a few months later. I'm going to wait a bit before I start researching the candidates.

I hope General Zod runs again in the 2012 election.

His 2008 campaign didn't do as well as I had hoped, but I'm sure people will kneel before him this time.

What was 8 years of Bush supposed to teach us, exactly? Well, other than the inherent evil of people whose last name begins with the B/P consonants of course.

ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD/SPACE POPE 2012 CAMPAIGN!

Serious answer: since the Republicans have their head up the "Tea Party's" butt and have an implicitly stated agenda of increasing the income gap and voting for 3rd partys is the same as half a vote for the Republicans, I'll be voting for Obama.
Ehhh, I dunno if I'll stick around. We'll see.

I, associating myself more with the liberals/Democrats, am reluctant to vote for Obama if I were to take into account solely his performance in the past years. However, seeing that the Republicans have become ridiculously conservative at the combined influence from the Tea Party and backlash against the Democrats' poor performance, I'm even more reluctant to vote for a Republican. It's probably gonna be a "lesser of the two evils" election.

I'd vote for Perry over Obama any day, though I'd probably vote for anyone over a Democrat any day anyhow. I have a problem with both parties, but I have a bigger problem with the Democrats.

The worst thing about Rick Perry winning is that we'd be stuck with that tool David Dewhurst for a governor.

We can sling party talking points and such back and forth at each other all day long, and none of us will convince each other of anything...but that journalist is an idiot.

So the Alamo was mass suicide? No, it was a group of men who stood and fought for what was theirs. The Confederacy losing the Civil War doesn't reflect on us. Typical liberal yankee to bring that up in his first paragraph. And Goliad...so what. They lost that battle. If America had lost the revolutionary war, do you think the British wouldn't have done the same to a whole lot of colonists? Perhaps it is better to fight for what you believe in and lose than to roll over and take it at any given opportunity?

I'm not even going to address the Astros, as sports is meaningless to me. However...this man has lived here for 36 years, and I've lived here for about three. If he finds people and culture so absurd and intolerable in this state, perhaps he ought to relocate himself to...somewhere else. It must not be as bad as he makes out, if he's managed for so long.

Further proof that he doesn't know what he's talking about? Michele Bachmann is from MINNESOTA. It's not a difficult fact to uncover. In fact, it should show up next to her name when she speaks on the news channels. If not...like I said. It's common knowledge.

Herman Cain is excellent in every way, and brutal honesty is exactly what the idiots that run rampant in this country need to hear. Ron Paul is also excellent, but he is a poor speaker. He is unable to communicate his ideas in a manner that the average person can understand them.

I suspect that this James Moore is filled with sour grapes that Texas elected Perry again, and not Bill White. There's a lot of things I could say about him from reading this article, but none of it will convince any of you of anything.

The only criticism I'll agree with from this writer is that much of our jobs boom has been low income jobs. However, since no one from either party will stop selling out the American people to foreign interests for pennies on the dollar - here's looking at you Obama, this is your boy, right? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0..._n_812005.html And look, I didn't even give you a link from Fox or Alex Jones or anyone remotely slanted to the right.

Sorry. Since no one will stop selling us out at every turn, that will be the new economy. The manufacturing will not come back unless it becomes cheaper to make stuff here, or unless our corporate tax rate drops - and I'd call that a big if, because I don't think it'd be enough.

One thing for you liberals to keep in mind...all of your grand plans and programs cost a hell of a lot of money. I'm not willing to pay, and neither are a whole lot of other people. And we'd love to fight about it.

I really, really hope that Perry doesn't go with Palin for VP.

I like how Herman Caine is dismissed in this article for being "too brutally honest and lacking political experience" to be a good candidate. You can say what you want about how his chances at election will be affected by these claims, but to throw them out and into the open for criticism is too vague.

That was Caine in 1994. Watch it. See and feel his inexperience. Watch as he trembles in the maw of political debate.

Lol @ 4/5 of the other candidates in the election.

Actually I was reffering to Wio's reply stating that the US isn't a Monarchy, in which he was reffering to Britain. I was correcting him as we are not just a Monarchy

He wasn't referring to Britain. He was simply stating that keeping a leader of the executive branch after his/her term is up, without voting, is characteristic of a monarchy. The U.S. is not a monarchy, so he is perfectly correct when he says it isn't. However, your little correction was redundant, as it was correcting nothing.

Actually a Monarchy isn't dictated by terms, and ruling is passed down through the Royal Family.
But anywho you could interpret Wio's statement within a number of ways if analysed deep enough. To be honest anything can

Because Obama doesn't really deserve a second term in my opinion. But blah, not that my one vote would matter anyway. My state, as deep blue as it is, will most likely vote for him.

And this is just if anyone wanna discuss: I dislike like the system of electoral college. It's always the swing states that get the most attention. You can't talk about presidential elections without paying attention to Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania. Everyone else just gets ignored.

While aether might be going slightly mad there his first point is a good one, America needs a credible third party, like in the English Parliament there's the Center Right Conservative Party, the Center Left Labour Party and the Center Liberal Democrats but for some reason i can't see the Americans going for a Center Left party.

The Confederacy losing the Civil War doesn't reflect on us.
Kinda does, actually, at least in a social sense.
Ron Paul is also excellent, but he is a poor speaker. He is unable to communicate his ideas in a manner that the average person can understand them.
I'll grant you, Ron Paul is a good time. I don't agree with him all of the time, but he often manages to offend me less than the others on-stage, and his ideas scare the willies out of both major parties and their platforms.
And look, I didn't even give you a link from Fox or Alex Jones or anyone remotely slanted to the right.
FOX is overtly partisan, and often sloppy, but Alex Jones is unfamiliar with several schools of rational thought. You usually have to listen to Coast-to-Coast-AM- what with their talk of aliens and goblins and I don't know what all- to hear that many paranoid delusions in such a short space of time.

Kinda here, but not in a real enthusiastic way. No matter who gets nominated, my voting is going to be like a popularity contest in Poland, c. 1940, with only the Soviets and the Nazis as choices.

When someone states as a matter of fact that some unidentified boogeyman characteristic of Rick Perry makes him a terrible candidate, they deserve a shot. What was being said in a round about way is: "We had 8 years of Bush who is a conservative. That sucked. Therefore we need to elect liberals. (Pay no attention to the past 3 years, that's still Bush's fault)"
