I say it sort of varies. I already know half of my fellow freshmen class due to a FB group page.. Everyone seems amazing my school is even hosting a foam party.lol.
Ummm we're going to have a butt race and we're all going to go on a mini field trip together to go see Lion king in 3D and other beach trips. :]
Yay for going to an art school where everyone foolishly has fun rather than getting wasted :]
Pretty much don't screw up and have "tooooo" much fun that ruins your education I should say.. It happens to most.

Well, there was a lot of frisbee, and a lot of boozing.
The most notable difference is that there's a lot less retarded teenage drama than in High School.
In general, there's a lot more freedom, which comes with a lot more responsibility. The crazy parties is part of higher education (as they should be), but at the same time it's easy to go overboard and end up pissing away their future. It's a delicate balance that way.
Hey look, Japan made a movie about me!
I sat in the library and helped people with their math homework. Do your homework >(

It's one of the most frustrating things of my life. I hate it, but I gotta do it anyways if I wanna get somewhere though.
I already told some people my story of why I hate College(a few on AF), and if you read my blogs, you know 20%.
But I do it cause it's worth it. =3

I agree that the college 'lifestyle' can get monotonous really quickly.
Good luck in College! I haven't gone to College yet so I can't give you any personal experiences, though I am going sometime next year! Which college you heading to by the way?

For one, you do have a lot more freedom than high school. Enjoy it, but also remember that homework is important. Pro tips:
Don't fall into the trap of afternoon napping, 10-20 mins is fine though
All nighters are not always the best choice, use em as a last resort
Be social! I made the mistake of sheltering myself for a semester, and now I wish I would've been more open
Health and counseling centers are your best friends =]
Also, good luck!
I've only been in college for a semester, but nothing big really happened. In college, no one really nags at you to go to class and you wont get in trouble if you skip a day or two (provided its not a test day cause a lot of professors don't do make up tests). But remember that it's really easy to screw up. Take my sister. In high school she mostly got A's. But last semester, she failed two classes and lost a lot of financial aid money. Also, be warned about spring break. I swear, for all of my classes we lost anywhere from a third to half of the students after spring break.
Sig no longer in development...
i am majoring in marine biology talk about lots of homework but thats when i am not being called up into the navy reserve i signed up last year i am ranked as a Airman apprentice

If history repeats itself, and moves in a circular path, then believing that whatever force is turning it is perfect, is all we can do as we move ahead. Pushed along by forces beyond our control, waiting, for the blade to be swung.

I worked all through college to pay for a car, and thus never had much of a social life. I also lived off campus. I would not recommend living off campus, as you're isolated from whatever fun stuff goes on in dorms. My school had all sorts of hall events. Also, buzzkill as it may be, RAs and campus cops are regulators and often a great help. You don't want to ruin your future with booze and drugs.
I'm a first year in Software and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland (which I assume is similar to college there in America?). Since I used to go to boarding the last two years I got too used to the boarding teacher to wake me up yelling everyday on why I'm still sleeping when school has started so last semester I would wake up at 3pm so I missed my lectures. It gets very tempting to skip a lecture once or twice and just catch up with the online recording but ,especially in the later years, it will all snowball and you will have more work than you can handle.
Also don't just lock yourself in your room and study (or watch anime), try to socialize a bit or you will burn out. I can't go out much because I'm 17 and don't enjoy alcohol but since I live in a student apartment there are always people swimming or playing guitar or soccer and its a nice refresher.

Here's what I've learned in my 4 years:
1. If you're going to go crazy with parties and drinking, get it out early. I know plenty of people who got caught up with their social lives and couldn't hack it through freshman year, and I know plenty of people who's constant partying caused them to fail classes - and to flunk out, in one case. You can ignore this if you're a business major, because all business majors do is party - it's not a real major.
2. Attend class. Even if you don't pay too much attention in class (though you should), attend. You are far more likely to learn the material and get good grades just by being in class. This is a lesson my roommate has learned the hard way.
3. If you have electives (as you will primarily in your first two years), take something that interests you that is outside of your major. It's an easy way to work in a minor. It's something I wish I had done, because I'm two classes short of having minors in business and art history, and three classes short for economics - and I no longer have electives left to go for any of them.
4. Don't join a frat. Just don't do it, bro.
5. Develop a new hobby. You're going to have a lot of spare time freshman and sophomore year no matter what your major is. With most majors things don't get tough until junior year (and if you're an engineering major, you will be overwhelmed). But make sure you do something with your free time so it doesn't go to waste - it's a great way to manage stress. This is why I say to develop a new hobby - so you'll have something definite to go to during your free time rather than wasting it while being indecisive.
6. Do your goddamn homework. The hardest part of doing homework is starting it - once you've managed to overcome that hurdle it all goes rather smoothly. Doing your homework, especially in mathematics-based majors, is the best way to learn the material.
"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
First off, relax. It may seem weird to start with but you'll get the hang of everything eventually. Now regardless of what house you're put into working as a team with your fellow classmates to get the house cup should be one of your main goals. It's pretty simple really, stay out of trouble and do your best in class. Practice your magic in your dorm and read up when you can in the library. After a while you'll slowly start to get points, don't let it go to your head though. Fastest way to lose points is to be over confident.
Don't worry about the ghosts. Other than Peeves they're all rather helpful and are impressed by confidence. So don't cower when they pass through you. Avoid Finch if you can, he has a habit of blaming anyone who is near. Also if you have a problem teacher just do some extra work in the library, you'd be amazed how much more lenient they all are if they see you trying.
But above all, have fun. Being a wizard just isn't the same unless you enjoy yourself.
This is a Sig. It's horribly out of date.
Also, regarding being new to college, realize that you are not alone in that. If you feel lost, look around you and realize that some 30% of everyone you see will also be new, and likely also feel lost.
Hey look, Japan made a movie about me!
Hmm I really wouldn't wouldn't take any "do this" "don't do this" list from complete strangers to heart, or seriously. You are going to do what you want, whether it ends up with you dropping out, or sticking around and doing great in school.
As for my first college experience, it was just school really...I do my work, I go home, I go to work. I make friends, etc. I don't see why you'd be tempted to crazy with partying college anymore than you would in High school honestly. ^^; But it just seems like high school to me aside from living with roommates and the work being a bit harder. I mean I'm paying to be there, to learn and get my degree - I am not paying to screw up, have the professors baby me like I'm in 5th grade, and screw myself out of thousands of dollars worth of tuition. So I just tend to do what needs to be done to keep my grades up and pass.
The dreams we are chasing and the reality that is chasing us are always parallel; they never meet.
I'm in a community college for an associates degree to be a Auto mechanic, but i do plan in going back to school for an illustration degree. Pretty much has been going good except for a class with one of the worst auto instructors. I tried to make friends in the school's anime club but the people there were basically wee-uhh-boobs so i don't even bother going there. It's ok i guess, but it might be different for you. Good Luck.

Man that is whack!

Make sure you do make some good friends in college, and I mean a lot of friends. Making friends helps you to lower your stress level. Attending classes and doing your homework and studying hard are required, but going out with some college friends wouldn't hurt, but it can also help to support the quality of your college life. They can become your great support. On the other hand, they might become your long-term friends in the future! =D
Im going to Central Michigan University. And good luck on your college future! do you know what college you plan to attend?
I barely sleep in the afternoon so no problem there lol. All nighters are something i will make sure i NEVER do nighttime is for my sleep. Although im pretty sure its gonna be a few occasions that im going to have to pull one.
Be social part...im social when it come to people talking to me...but as far as going out and socializing...yea not really my thing >.>
Yea spring breaks....*sighs* amazing the stories you hear >.> kind of sad actually
Lmao @ the business major is not a major xD
Why do you say dont join a frat? I never heard anyone say this before o.O
Also my major is heavy in math(computer science) math isnt my weakness but i tend to forget it easily >.<
This made me laugh xD but i understood it o.O
Thanks everyone for the advice! As far as dorms go its seperate rooms in 1 whole room so at least i dont have to share a bedroom which is what i was mostly worried about :/
Im going to have to study... and i say that with no afterword like "more" or "harder" because honestly i never studied in high school to be honest >.>;
