am i a true anime fan?

hi there i was just wondering am i a true anime fan. cuz i usually watch dubed instead of subs. and alot of ppl say that your only a true anime fan if u watch subed eps. reason why i watch dubed is i have alot of problems reading and spelling i cant read as fast as other ppl. and when i go to read text i only read half and its done. but dont get me whron i watch alot of anime like bleach shrikei correct me if i spell that wrong and also clannad and spice and wolf eaden of the east and inuasha and much much more. not naruto i hate naruto -_-. but back on topic it stoped me short like bleach i can only watch when they come out with next dubbed episoed. also spice and wolf season 2 is subbed only and it my fav anime. so i was just wondering iv been watching anime since i was 5 im curnntly 17 . so if your still reading plz tell me.

Just cause you watch dubs doesn't mean you aren't an anime fan. You are a fan if you enjoy watching anime. I have a friend who enjoys dubs more than subs (prefers the acting) and he watches quite a bit of anime. I prefer subs because I like watching anything (including movies) in the language it was made in yet I consider both of us equally as fans of anime

Really? I like having sound with the "Animation" I watch.
If you confine yourself to dub series then you will only see a limited amount of anime while if you watch sub then you have a limitless amount, so to speak. Though, some dubs are good but I find that most aren't as good when compared to sub. In any case, dub or sub, it doesn't matter. As long as you keep up with the series who really cares.

You don't have to be a purist to be a true anime fan. Besides, I bet most anime fans who watched anime when they were kids grew up with dubs. I know I did. Whatever your preferences are, it shouldn't detract from you being a fan, or your enjoyment. Have fun, and watch anime however you want.

I consider a true fan to be a supporter of the industry, and by that I mean purchasing legit releases (no matter the cost or if is only available in Japan) and not the plethora of bootleg material that is available (or being a cheapskate and just watching fansubs).

There was a discussion (in the anime GD section I think) a few years back and some of the people were endorsing the purchasing of bootleg DVD releases whilst I was the only one who said that they didn't give any money back to the people who created the series which is why I decided then that a true fan would buy legitimate releases and not fakes.

It would be more reasonable to support the industry when possible, but I doubt a lot of people without a lot of money would shell out $100 for some box set or for some 2 episode blu ray release without subtitles. Youtube and fansubs would be a good idea to sample the anime first before buying it though. Oh yeah, and the things with dubs are: you'll have to wait for an anime to be licensed and released in your country (besides Japan) before you can watch them. For now, explore anime that hasn't been released in the US yet, and eagerly anticipate it's release. It gives you something to look forward to at least

Well I can manage with a limited budget since I always look around for the best deals (from sources that sell legit merchandise) except when I got the itch to get some Japanese releases.

Well you see, you can go with a Tier List level of fandom.
From lowest to highest:
-Casual Fan: watches anime, reads manga now and then.
-Fanboy: More specific and obsessive, follows certain anime.
-Japanophile: Likes anime a lot, at a point they abhor English dubs.
-Otaku: Unnatural level of interest in Anime, knows ALL.
I don't see the real care of "if you are a True fan or not", I personally feel like the more into fandom of whatever, the more you Lose, but that's just me.
