alright. I did a quick search on sandbox games. I guess it's a fairly new term, so no exact definition has been given as of yet, but so far from what I've gathered it's a game that is non-linear and can have multiple routes for objectives, subquests, or no definite objective to accomplish.
I would also like to see where you get your idea of what a sandbox game is as well.
It's pretty easy to measure myself skill wise in Shogun 2 and Starcraft 2. I'm slightly above average in Shogun (being able to defeat level 10 generals while still being level 2) and slightly under average in Starcraft 2 (average is gold league, I'm high silver in SEA and gold in NA).
You're right, these are recently created terms but most people I've talked to over the years, and I agree, depict sandbox as a non linear, game with no objectives. Think games like Terraria, Garry's Mod, Minecraft, etc. An Open World is a game that has a vast world you can wander around and explore but still has objectives. Games such as Oblivion, New Vegas, Just Cause 2, etc. I'm guessing the term is derived by the fact that in an actual sandbox you're free to do what ever you want. You can dig a hole, build a sandcastle, bury things, etc. There's nothing preventing you from doing what ever you want.

I considered myself a fine gamer, and my guns are loaded to take anyone on via xbox live to prove it! Lately I've been playing Left 4 Dead 2, and even I must admit that the survival mode in this game is tricky.

It really depends on the game. I'm usually pretty good in the Battlefield games. I ran some insanely high K/D ratios in BF2. I do pretty well in most shooters, but I'm not usually the best. I don't strive to be the top player in a server, I just make sure I know how to play my class/role and do my best. I'm not super competitive.
I suck at console games online. I was a casual in WoW and other MMOs.
I do consider myself a good gamer, though i usually just play for the fun of it =)
Been playing BF3 so much i've almost grown tired =P
I'm pretty much above average in anything I play except for NES titles.
Though I haven't entered a FPS tournament yet, I think I can compete with the big boys. (Just need a team and a schedule to work with and I'm good). I still need practice before I can really be a big threat in MvC3, even at EVO (Sadly, it's the only fighting game that I'm good at). I also so proficient skill in racing games in general.
Overall, I don't think I'm even close to pro level but I do have a lot of fun though...

I don't play games enough to consider myself a "gamer". I really suck at finishing games.
I am, however, a long time collector of various Nintendo merchandise. Not sure if that counts.
I have been playing games since my parents first got me an atari... I consider myself a gamer, but not because of score, how good or bad I do, how many kills I get, or anything of the sort. I consider myself one because I enjoy playing games on almost every console. I personally don't think there is such a thing as a good or bad gamer. Where some people succeed in being good at a game, they can also horribly fail at others... which makes them good at the GAME, but doesn't make them a good or bad gamer.
I am an okay gamer at FPS/TPS, but I consider myself quite epic at DOA4.
Also yes there is such a thing as a good gamer, not just lucky, if this was not true then we would not have professional leagues in which people can work as full time gamers.
Like it or not you would be wrong in assuming this, however as I said I am good at DOA but not CoD so you can be good at particular games but no one is top draw at all games in my experience.
I guess i'm okay as a gamer, even though i don't play online that much. Main reason is somehow i'd always run into one of those guys that takes the game too seriously, and try to get me kicked or banned just because i beat them a few times in a row/get a few headshots off on them. I don't care about achievments/trophies, i just want to play a game and have a good time.

Pro: Can take any game and excel higher than most do in it. Those that take it too serious are tryhard dbags.
Good: Can take most games and do a fairly good job in them.
Average: Excels in certain genres and does poorly in others.
Poor: Can't do very well no matter what game they play. (But still have fun)
Anyone that does not enjoy the games they play are not gamers at all. Games are supposed to be fun.
I guess I could consider myself I decent gamer (albeit quite deprived when it comes to most popular titles... I'm usually about 5 years behind everyone else. >3<). I don't play multi-player that much, but I can hold my own against my opponents, and I get a few compliments when I play PvP in some MMOs.
I'm a decent gamer, but I get impatient really quickly if I keep getting my head handed to me (Demon Souls...). I do suck pretty thoroughly at a lot of pvp based gameplay though.
I consider myself a gamer. Whether I'm good or bad...well I'll leave that for my teammates to decide...x3
Then again I don't really care If I'm great or not. I'm in for the fun and its a good away for my mind to escape to another place.

I would consider a gamer to be someone that enjoys it and has some level of passion towards it. Though, consequently, you will become good at it if you play it enough. I've had a gamers mentality since i first got my nintendo 64 ages ago as a young kid. I was engaged in it straight away, playing zelda and mario 64. I haven't stopped playing since. Gamer all the way!
I wouldn't just consider myself as gamer, but a very dedicated gamer (only FPS) because I've been playing CS for 4 years 6 hours a day, then I play COD 4 hours a day until recently. If you get to define a gamer, I would say that a gamer is someone that is passionate about games, and skills only determines if the gamer is in fact "hardcore gamer"
Better then average. My reflexes aren't amazing, but I metagame pretty well, so I usually end up in situations where I can succeed anyway.
Ehhh, I dunno if I'll stick around. We'll see.

Being a good gamer at least to me, is being able to lose with respect, plus winning with the same manner.
It's always in the last place you'd think of looking!
I'd consider myself a good gamer since I've been playing games since I was 4! Nowadays I play at least one game everyday!
