just wondering how people see themselves as gamers. whether its by how many times you win or how fast you can beat games or just anything like that.
as for myself i think i am good, but always just a second place person...

I know I'm not very good at video games, but I still enjoy them.
However, the fact that I can't get anywhere near beating the first "final boss" of Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep in Easy Mode really does not make give me any confidence whatsoever. Oh, well. It's just a video game.

Its not how many time's you beat it, or how pro or noobish you are at a game, that makes you a gamer. or even how long you have been playing games for.
It's all about enjoying the game and being able to get into it, that makes you a gamer.
I suck at playing game's online, But i know im more of a gamer than 75% of the people that play games online. Simply because i know how to enjoy a game. (that and i can play any game, but chick game's)

I like to consider myself as a good gamer. However, it depends on the game or console.
Your only a good gamer if something sees you play and thinks "Man, he's good" and such, likewise for bad players. Other than that, your just a gamer.
i definitely consider myself a gamer, i can pick up any console and grow to the level of an average gamer on said console or game within a day or two and i find quite a bit of enjoyment from many games. though i also like to take the challenge of beating games on the hardest difficulty whether it has achievements or not.

i judge myself on score or k/d ratio
for example: if my K/D ratio is better than 1.0 then i must be better than the average guy in FPS games.
score example: rank....if there are (let's just say) 30,000 people playing a particular game, and i am ranked #1000 or lower....then that's pretty good imo.

Depends on the game.
I usually suck at fps games, my k/d on BO is 0.90 :P
But I think I`m good at most games except for fps.
I complete most games pretty fast.
well has for me i really suck at games lol,i have an xbox 360 and a ps2 and guite a few games for both of them but i only completed one and that was by a fluke lol.
it was Atelier iris 2 the azoth of destiny.
but i`m playing on Tales of vesperia for the xbox and i suck at that too^^!.
well, I've been playing video games nearly every day since I was 3 years old, on just about every single device that has existed now. @__@;
I may not been 'top tier' when it comes to facing off against others, but I definitely have my share of experience with most genres.

I consider myself for a good damer.
I suck at fist but after I play a game couple of times I get better.

i'm not a sore loser but gosh i am getting tired of never being able to win in fighting games and stuff like that , no matter how hard a practice. stuff like that makes me feel like i shouldn't try anymore.
I'm a person who enjoys playing video games, that for me is a gamer.
I may only play casually; I don't enter into tournaments or boast how "pro" I am, but it's more fun that way.
I love playing games like they should be played. having a good time, with or without your mates and buddies (although i prefer with ) I enjoy both Singleplayer/ campaign and Versus modes, however, sadly enough on some games such as COD it has changed into a hating competition every single time. it's awesome to play games versus with friends, and you can laugh about it. but then those guys with their big mouthes come along, it's just no fun.
oh, and i'm a mental gamer, top class ;P (not really but yes really but not really)
I see myself as a good gamer because, I love games. And if I suck at that game I'll take time to work on it so i can get better. So I can pwn everyone. ^___^
My logic, being raged at helps you get better. Which is why I rage at everyone. >:]
A good gamer can communicate and manipulate his/her skills during gameplay to be able to get a batter chance of winning. I personally CANNOT play ANY game without having a friend playing with me, its so much fun. (:

I don't really consider myself a good gamer. I love playing video games though but I think I am kinda average, although there are a few games that I am really good at.

I guess it is what you mean by good gamer or bad gamer. I consider myself a good gamer because I have that competitive drive when it comes to games. Im also one of few gamers to choose Final Fantasy over CoD. Though I can't say the same about uncharted. The game is awsome.
Seriously ._.
This. The only people I consider bad gamers are those that play for reasons other then enjoying the games they like. Gamer score whores and gold farmers come to mind. I can understand being proud of hard to perform achievements, but when half the games are educational titles or kids titles (how many grown men would really enjoy Hannah Montana?), I really start feeling bad for them and their addiction.

I consider myself alright.
Some games I can't go beyond easy, other games I figure out in just 30 minutes and blast my way through in a few hours.
I'm really good at AC: Brotherhood online, and RDR online.
Though it is somewhat blunt I believe this is how gamers is best described:

So pretty much anyone who is serious about gaming and understands what a truly good game is can honestly call themselves a good gamer. Skill has nothing to do with it and I do consider myself one of there number.

I would consider being a "good gamer" as something more than just enjoying a game. I mean, you're a "gamer", yeah, but I wouldn't say a good one unless you do more than enjoy it. I mean, think of it in terms of sports. You can enjoy playing basketball, and because of that you can call yourself a basketball player, but that doesn't really mean you're GOOD at basketball. Just saying. And I think it doesn't matter which console you're playing, but rather the genre. You can be a good gamer at any genre.
If you can play RPGs and can get past the learning curve for that particular game in all aspects and enjoy the story, then you're a good RPG gamer.
If you can pick up a sandbox game and have fun with it while not getting too sidetracked to actually finish the game, you're a good sandbox gamer.
If you can play an FPS online and grasp the basics of the mechanics, spawn points, line of sights and/or all the other small details, you're a good FPS gamer.
Same goes with fighting, racing and any other genre. If you can learn the base of whatever specific genre and are able to play a bit before getting a basic understanding, I would say THAT is what makes a GOOD gamer. And hell, if you can pick up any game and understand the concept while learning specifics about what the game is about, I would say you're a good overall gamer.
As for me... I would say I'm pretty good at RPG and FPS games. I can grasp RPG fighting mechanics pretty quickly and learn them fast enough for me not to have any problems with the games I would play. And I love playing FPS games since I'm pretty competitive. I used to suck pretty big but my k/d has been going up every specific game I play. I think my K/D was over 2.0 in Halo Reach and I'm currently 1.25 in Black Ops, even though I mess around a lot. I play my own little games like swapping out weapons whenever I kill someone or only using ballistic knives and tomahawks. Things that'll keep me from boredom. Lol.
@MistaCloudStrife You can't finish sandbox games. Sandbox games are open ended and have to end goal to beat. As such, you can't finish it. Think Minecraft or Terraria. You can however finish open world games such as New Vegas or Oblivion. Or at least the main story in Oblivion's case as you can play past the ending.
