I personally like Vegeta, but that's because his attitude is a total prick, then he's starts getting... sorta... nice. Lol, I love watching characters like that, they are so entertaining.

Goku is more powerful than Vegeta. Duh.
However, for the first big chunk of Dragonball Z Vegeta is a more compelling character. Goku is a Right for Right's sake character, because he's severely brain damaged.
Vegeta however has a backstory that gives him depth. As a child his entire species is murdered. Including his father (and by extension the rest of his family) he then unwittingly spends his entire life killing and conquering in the name of the man responsible for the deaths of his people (Frieza). He has a pride in his bloodline, living by an honor system. In seeking a way out of his servitude to Frieza (immortality via Dragonballs) He then meets a man with no knowledge of their shared heritage. In fact this man doesn't give a damn about knowing his shared heritage (Goku). Goku then bests him in combat. For shame. To make matters worse he finds Frieza seeking the Dragonballs for himself, then Vegeta finds that Frieza is the one who killed his species. Newly invigorated by his rage he means to usurp Frieza's throne to avenge is people. And then he gets his donkey kicked and Goku kills Frieza.
If Shakespeare wrote space opera, Vegeta would be his lead character.

He's more than a douchebag. He's a douchebag for a REASON. That's why I like him and why he's a better character than Goku.

I'd agree with you if it weren't for the fact that Vegeta eventually settles down with a nice rich cute genius RICH wife and uses her to ease his frustrations at night... as proven by his two children.

Well for me, I've always enjoyed Vegeta more. Someone said in an earlier post that early on he had a more compelling story. I completely agree. Goku is very strong. We all know he's definitely the strongest. But if we're playing favorites, I'm going to go with Vegeta. His fights always interest me more, anyway. XD

Goku is better than Vegeta, no doubt. We can see in all anime Goku being better than Vegeta, Vegeta it's strong and have great techniques, but Goku haves very talent to the fights, he was born with this power inside.

Thats because, they didnt have time to do the training to grow back out the tail, which goku cheated in to get the tail faster.

He pulled out his tail physically, and? Not really cheating. Goku never used any machines(Or his wife) to do his work for him, just training and fighting. Oh. Unless you count machines used to intensify his training. Lol.

Goku because he is pure, GOOD dominate's over evil, even though vegeta is good not but he doesnt have the same determination as goku, goku will always win becuase he is the main character.

He achieved each level of Super Sayian before Vegeta.

Goku doesn't have to do anything to get stronger. He just...does. He figures he has to train. Okay, he trains, gets stronger. His friend dies. That sucks; let's get all angry and become more powerful. He suddenly has the oppertunity to train under 500x gravity? Totally!

With Vegeta, it's different. Like @Docter One already explained, Vegeta had to overcome a lot to become who he is today. Sacrificing his pride he grew up with, living in his own world because no one understands his bloodline or lineage, being beaten down by a lower-class that normally never happend to him before. It's all very frustrating for him, and in the end he throws away his pride to become emotionally more invested: when he proclaims Goku to be stronger.

Also, think about it, without Vegeta Goku would've died a ton more times in the series. So Goku needs Vegeta as much as Vegeta needs Goku.
